DETAIL

Anew Centre for Healing is looking for a skilled candidate to oversee the day-to-day program operations of the licensed group home for children and youth. The successful candidate will be skilled in the area of supporting children/youth with complex trauma. The Group Home Manager will be able to provide children/youth with the support, skills, and information they require to function successfully. This position is responsible for counseling our participants on an individual and group basis. The successful candidate will carry the responsibility for treatment planning, teaching/role modeling, crisis intervention, and reporting on the safety and progress of the participants. The successful candidate is responsible for the overall case management and the coordination of activities for the children and youth within the parameters of the program. The Group Home Manager provides direct support to the House Lead assigned to the home, and their front-line staff, as well as overall support for the children and youth that reside within this home. The Group Home Manager assists in the direction and support of program philosophies. The Group Home Manager provides supervision and evaluation to the House Lead, volunteers, and practicum students. They are accountable to the Directors of Anew Centre for Healing.

DAILY ROUTINE/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development of a trusting and therapeutic relationship with participants and the community;
  • Teaching living skills, social skills and regulation strategies through role modeling of appropriate behavior and being able to assess client deficits and strengths and use systematic plans of instruction, teaching methods, and approaches to transfer information and skills to participants;
  • Develop strong partnerships with a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Assist participants with the development and maintenance of problem-solving skills;
  • Activity planning that involves participants in groups that meet the recreational, educational and/or therapeutic needs;
  • Providing guidance and support to frontline staff members;
  • Orientation and training of new employees;
  • Oversight of the day-to-day service delivery;
  • Counseling skills that utilize problem-solving, de-escalation, goal-setting, and preventative interventions with clients in either a 1:1 or group scenario;
  • Administration and file maintenance;
  • Maintain structure, consistency, and effective follow-up on house rules, routines, and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required;
  • Documentation of session activities, themes, and follow-through of the children and youth, as well as their families for any supervised visits;
  • Monthly documentation related to participants including service planning, reviews, plans, etc.;
  • Remain within the “Scope of Practice” of Child and Youth Care Counselors;
  • Providing all participants with a sense of safety, acceptance, and nurturance;
  • Scheduling, After-Hours support and On-Call rotation;
  • Ensuring fiscal responsibility of the program;
  • Perform additional tasks or duties as directed by Leadership.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree or diploma in a Human Services field (i.e. Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology) would be considered an asset;
  • Three (3) years related to front-line (in a licensed group home setting) as well as 1-2 years of supervisory experience;
  • Current (6 months or newer) and Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Clearance;
  • Current (6 months or newer) Alberta Child Welfare (Intervention) Record Check;
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training;
  • Valid Driver's License and Clear Drivers Abstract as well as $2 million liability coverage;
  • Strong interpersonal skills that bridge the distance with individuals who may have a resistance to relationships, different morals/values, and alternative lifestyle choices;
  • Non-judgmental manner and strong personal boundaries;
  • Demonstrates good writing and communication skills;
  • Experience in working with diverse cultural and religious communities;
  • Understanding of the client-centered and the Circle of Courage model and Milieu-Based Therapy philosophies of treatment/interventions;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous culture, beliefs, and traditions;
  • Must be flexible to attend mandatory training.
