Job Summary and Qualifications


Areas of specialty:


This position is responsible for overseeing all investigations of reported child maltreatment within the agency's jurisdictional boundaries and providing interventions and direction as required. Work in conjunction with law enforcement, medical personnel, child abuse committee and other collaterals


Qualifications:

  • BSW degree preferred; or Post-secondary Degree in the Social Sciences is acceptable. Other combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
  • Preferred minimum of one (1)year abuse investigations/direct working experience in child welfare;
  • Must have working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Regulations;
  • Preferred experience in case management and planning, particularly in child welfare
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills; problem solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid class five driver's license and a reliable insured vehicle.
  • The ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language is considered an asset

Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Reviews and follows up on all reports of alleged abuse, and interviews alleged offender.
  • Within 30 days of the initial report, ensures that all substantiated or inconclusive reports are scheduled for review by the agency child abuse committee at its next meeting.
  • Provides consultation in the investigation and management of the case as directed by the agency child abuse committee within five working days.
  • Ensure culturally appropriate services are provided to all families of the community we serve.
  • Ability to handle complaints
  • Attend court proceedings when required and as requested
  • Arranging, attending and assisting facilitation child abuse committee meetings on a monthly basis
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
