The Opportunity

Reporting to the Regional Manager - Environment, the Environmental Coordinator is responsible for assisting project teams to ensure environmental and contractual compliance along with recommending, supporting, and implementing environmental mitigation measures. The Environmental Coordinator will also coordinate performing sampling, monitoring, or other environmental compliance work with subcontractors or the project team. Additionally, the Environmental Coordinator will provide guidance, support, and assistance to ensure legislative compliance for all project work including in water works and soil management. Please note that this role is for the Marine Terminal construction scope of work at the Woodfibre LNG project 7 km to the West of Squamish. This is shift based work at a remote project site, with accommodations on a Floatel. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working within this environment, on a rotation on and off work schedule.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare, validate and implement environmental plans in conjunction with the Project Teams (e.g. Environmental Protection Plan, Erosion Control Plan, Waste Management Plan, Contaminated Soil Management Plan, etc.)
  • Provide advice and expertise to the Project Team on various environmental issues associated projects, including but not limited to, Water Quality, Sensitive Environments, Contaminated soils etc…
  • Cooperate and assist professionals and the Project Team in meeting the certification objectives and target point requirements
  • Verify subcontractors' contractual obligations and the accuracy of their work as it relates to environmental requirements,
  • Conduct regular construction site visits to ensure environmental compliance of construction work and complete monitoring reports in Procore,
  • Maintain environmental performance indicators (non-conformities, spills, residual materials, best practices, etc.) and complete associated documentation in Procore,
  • Report any apparent deviations from requirements that may affect environmental and the certification obligations to the Project Team as soon as possible and assist with regulatory reporting as required,
  • Open non-compliance reports as required,
  • Find proactive solutions to maintain environmental compliance, to meet the requirements and commitments of the certification process, as well as the objectives of the Project,;
  • Work with the Project Team to develop construction methodologies that minimize environmental impacts,
  • Conduct sampling as required for construction sites, including water, soil, or air,
  • Educate and provide training to workers and the Project Team on environmental matters as an expert in the field, Coordinate subcontractors performing sampling, monitoring, or other environmental compliance work.
  • Collaborate in the production of the monthly report or any other environmental report required for the project or for permits and authorizations, and
  • Assist the Project Team (and Regional Office) with the development of responses to Client and/or Regulatory Authority concerns.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, sustainable development, engineering, geology or a similar field,
  • Have a professional designation (RPBio., P.Ag., P.Eng., etc.) or in training status, or willing to obtain.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in the environmental field,
  • Experience working on marine construction projects is an asset,
  • Construction worksite experience (previous work with a Contractor would be considered an asset),
  • Technical and sampling experience,
  • Strong understanding of the environmental challenges and impacts in the construction industry,
  • Knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal environmental regulations,
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office suite,
  • Valid driver's license and ability to attend sites around Metro Vancouver,
  • Knowledge of LEED and/or Envision certification, an asset,
  • Hardworking and discerning,
  • Versatile, flexible and demonstrates initiative,
  • Aptitude for working on a multidisciplinary team in the construction field,
  • Keen sense of organization and self-directed,
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a cooperative spirit,
  • Positive outlook with constructive and solutions-oriented approach, and
  • Comfortability with shift work
  • Comfortable in working at a remote project site close to the Lower Mainland of Vancouver.

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $70,000 - $90,000, plus applicable Project Assignment Uplift. Please note that salaries may vary depending on the candidate's experience and geographical location. Listed compensation is exclusive of bonus and in addition to our extensive employee benefits program which is listed above. Availability of certain benefits may vary based on the specific job role.
