Our Surrey office is looking for an Accounting Manager. This role is full-time / permanent and works a hybrid schedule with some work from home. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Finance, you will be a leader within our branch and oversee the Strata Accounting team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the Accounting Department
  • Building and maintaining a strong team of Accountants and Clerks and corporate culture
  • Interviewing and selecting of new hires
  • Managing staff levels, training, portfolio size and assessing individual performance and teamwork alongside the other leaders of the Accounting Department to ensure timely execution of deliverables including financial statements, budgets, analyses, cash management and returns.
  • Motivating and counselling of accounting staff, address and resolve any challenges.
  • Assist with complex financial statement and accounting related issues and acting as liaison on accounting matters between Community Managers, board members, auditors, banking institutions, other departments/branches or third parties.
  • New business and council members financial related onboarding
  • Overseeing, improving, and implementing internal control functions and ensuring compliance with BCFSA and other strata management industry regulatory bodies
  • Documenting standard procedures, write templates, guides and checklists.
  • Ensuring quality of financial statements
  • Performing, leading, and coordinating any range of accounting special projects, tasks and other related duties
  • Detailed knowledge of all company systems to ensure smooth day to day operations and address challenges faced by the team towards completing their tasks
  • Performing or assisting with any operations and other departments as required to maintain smooth uninterrupted workflows and achieve deadlines.
  • Participating in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems
  • Maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to Strata Property Act, BCFSA, new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines
  • Ensure Accounting Department's adherence to all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting required
  • 7 – 10 years of directly related or closely related experience
  • 3 – 5 years of Management and/or Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP at an expert level
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level
  • Knowledge of typical business correspondence (grammar, structure, punctuation, spelling, etc.) at a proficient level
  • Professional communication skills (phone, interpersonal, written, verbal, etc.)
  • Self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented and a team player.
  • Interpretation and completion of verbal and/or written instructions at a proficient level
