We are currently seeking to add a Project Accountant to our team.

Position Title: Project Accountant

Reports to: Corporate Controller

Department: Finance & Administration

Position Summary

The Project Accountant is responsible for ensuring precise and rigorous financial tracking and reconciliations of a portfolio of projects, as well as overseeing compliance with budgets. Communicating with Project Managers, Area Managers, and Corporate Finance is key in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Projects:

  • Ensure project is set up in SAGE as new projects are created in 4CP.
  • Review contract, T&M rates to ensure they are entered correctly in 4CP for invoicing.
  • Review and approve POs as required.
  • Project closeouts - ensure all payments received from customer including holdback, and all costs reconciled between 4CP and SAGE (should be done within 3 months of physical completion).
  • Reconcile projects regularly to ensure all costs and revenues are captured in a timely manner (REV REC as per ASPE).
  • Liaise with PM/PCs to ensure 4CP is maintained in a timely manner (change orders, margin, end dates).
  • Assist area managers with overhead costs as required.
  • Support all internal and external audit requests.
  • Participation in their Regions Strategy and Update Sessions.
  • Accompanying the Area Manager Partners to their monthly Financial Reviews and assisting to prepare the review slides

Accounts Receivable:

  • Ensure invoicing is done monthly at minimum and escalate as required.
  • Prepare and submit invoices, and ensure invoices are accepted by clients for payment processing to minimize AR aging.
  • Update invoice log to track invoices and payments.
  • Follow up on outstanding/overdue payments.
  • Review holdback balance regularly to ensure holdback is released in a timely manner.
  • Complete AR/WIP updates as required.

Accounts Payable:

  • Review float and vendor invoices regularly to ensure proper coding (ties into project reconciliation).
  • Assist/support PM/Coordinators on unattested costs and ensure they are addressed in a timely manner (this should minimize unattested costs being carried over multiple periods).

Month End:

  • Review revenue and cost accruals.
  • Warehouse (Pacific and NAB) and soil allocation (RBF).
  • Prepare JE accruals based on 4CP data.
  • Review JCS, identify/correct issues as required.
  • Execute JCS review meetings for assigned region.
  • Prepare additional accruals as required.

Physical Requirements

This position requires long periods of sitting, data entry, and computer work for extended periods. You are responsible for working in a safe and proper manner utilizing Workplace Ergonomics to avoid injury to oneself and to others.

Work Environment

The position will be based out of your local KBL office with travel required to the regional office on a quarterly basis.

Qualifications

  • Construction industry project accounting experience.
  • Relevant undergraduate degree/diploma with experience in project accounting function.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Technical and analytical accounting skills.
  • Understanding of ASPE.
  • Familiar with ERP and BI environments.
  • Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills.
