Ontario Line South

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are to design, build
and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

Working together as Ontario Transit Group we are currently mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimator or PM to join our claims team in Toronto. This role will be a key appointment for one of the largest schemes in Ontario. This challenging role will be responsible for analyzing and estimating various claim real time, covering a variety of topics such as tunneling, heavy civils, architectural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The role will involve hands on data analysis (daily logs and site records), calculation of productivity and estimating the impact for the project. The position will be operated in close liaison with multiple OTG teams, such as:

  • Subcontract Coordinators,
  • Cost Controller and Quantity Surveyor,
  • Site Construction Management

in order to achieve timely evaluation of the cost impacts and building a claim file on a monthly basis with full substantiation.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing and producing accurate cost estimates for a wide variety of tunnel and civil engineering works. This includes capturing and evaluating the impact of various events on both direct and indirect costs.
  • Review data log and site reports in connections with a series of event and data analysis.
  • Analysis data logs, site reports, project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify impact of unforeseen events on project schedule, resources, and cost
  • Collect rates and relevant data (change orders, pay applications, invoices, contracts…) from various sources, to substantiate the cost estimation (invoices from subcontractors, project budget, market prices…).
  • Liaise closely with scheduling, cost-control, contract and site construction teams to capture accurately any impact.
  • Prepare claim file in close collaboration with the Claims Coordinators and the other Team Members.
  • Prepare submission documents and ensure timely delivery for review by the Claim Coordinator.
  • Participate to meetings as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as an estimator working within the construction industry.
  • Previous experience as a quantity surveying (junior role) and estimator for large scale projects particularly tunneling and stations.
  • Technical or engineering background will be beneficial for the role.
  • Be experienced with using estimating software and maintain an updated database and risk scoring systems throughout the duration of the project – knowledge of Candy software will be factored in the candidacy.
