About the Opportunity

The Integrated Development team is looking to hire a dynamic Vice President, LEAD to develop and implement an enhanced program to recruit, train and retain volunteer talent – cultivate and place volunteers and maintain these relationships over time – all while ensuring that we are building relationships with UJA.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead a team of 4-5 UJA professionals to:

Identify Leadership Roles

  • Develop a task force, made up of a small, curated group of lay leaders to identify key criteria for meaningful and fulfilling leadership roles.
  • Work with professionals across UJA to assess current leadership opportunities against the criteria that will have been developed. Optimize current leadership roles (enhance committees, etc.)
  • Develop new leadership roles by identifying areas where professionals can benefit from lay partnership and support and where these would be meaningful and fulfilling opportunities.
  • Catalogue all leadership opportunities within UJA Federation

Recruit a robust pipeline of high potential leaders

  • Develop key criteria for what we are looking for in leaders and volunteers
  • Work with donor managers and prospecting professionals to identify and prioritize prospective leaders
  • Maintain two tracks/pipelines – one for governance roles and one for other leadership roles within UJA.

Train leaders to take on meaningful roles within UJA

  • Develop training programs to onboard leaders for roles at UJA Federation (one for governance roles and one for more general leadership roles).
  • Identify high potential lay leaders for governance roles with a lay “mentor” who has significant experience in governance within UJA Federation.
  • Build a curriculum and training program around the lay-professional partnership for UJA professionals and lay leaders.

Place leadership in roles within Federation

  • Support the Governance and Nominations Committee of the UJA Board
  • Work with UJA professionals across the organization to understand core competencies required for each leadership role.
  • Provide UJA professionals with curated short lists for committees, boards and other leadership roles and make recommendations on ideal candidates
  • Ensure donor managers or relationship managers are empowered to have conversations with prospective leaders about opportunities

Retain leadership

  • Ensure a relationship manager or donor manager is in place with a plan to steward the volunteer over time;
  • Institute a process to engage leadership as they come to the end of their term, and work with them to determine their next role.
  • Follow up with past leaders and keep them engaged and updated on key initiatives at UJA Federation.

Evaluate the impact of leadership opportunities

  • Develop key metrics to measure the volunteer experience and assess levels of affinity to UJA over time
  • Identify areas to improve and enhance the volunteer leader experience and work with the relevant UJA Federation professional to ensure that all experiences are optimized.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Education or equivalent experience
  • 10-15+ years in managerial roles either in the community or the corporate world
  • Experience in HR or recruitment recommended
  • Previous experience as a volunteer required
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to quickly build rapport with colleagues
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a busy environment
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and associated functions
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications and platforms as needed
  • Knowledge of Salesforce an asset
  • Proactive with excellent organizational, prioritizing and time-management skills
  • A self-starter able to leverage his/her knowledge, skills and experience to manage complex change from start to finish
  • Ability to manage complex projects and budgets, working collaboratively with staff as well as with multiple stakeholders to deliver results
  • An ability to think strategically and critically
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making and analytical capabilities with excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, innovation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Maintain a high degree of discretion and confidentiality

* This is a full-time permanent position. At UJA we support a flexible work schedule and all of our employees engage in hybrid work.
