The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul of Vancouver Island (“the Society”) has been supporting people in need on Vancouver Island since 1916. Focused on impacting the lives of people affected by poverty, the Society offers emergency relief services while maintaining a focus and
commitment to addressing the root causes that contribute to poverty in our communities. Through a variety of programs, the Society provides support through affordable housing, a food pantry, home visit program, day program for persons with developmental disabilities and thrift
stores providing clothing and household items to those in need, to name a few.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Communications and Fundraising, the Membership & Volunteer Development Coordinator will be a natural leader who inspires and motivates others. The primary role of this position is to strengthen the Society's church conference membership with a
focus on developing new and innovative volunteer opportunities while maintaining and fostering current conference member relationships.


The Membership & Volunteer Development Coordinator will act as the liaison between the Society and each of the twelve church conferences and is responsible for coordinating the development and promotion of events to recruit new members. In meeting the strategic goals
of the Society, they will maintain productive and positive working relationships with members and internal teams. The Membership & Volunteer Development Coordinator will have a drive for results combined with a focus on building and fostering working relationships in the community
and with conference members. They will have an understanding of core beliefs, moral principles and spiritual teaching of the catholic church.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Membership & Volunteer Development:
• Works with Conference Members to design, plan and implement effective recruitment and retention plans/strategies which reflect the goals and mission of the Society.
• Collaborates with Conference Members to develop and maintain a comprehensive list of involvement opportunities throughout the Society for individual and group volunteers and collaborative partnerships.

• Prepare, organize and deliver engaging presentations to various stakeholders that are in alignment with the audience's needs.
• Organizes profile-raising events and activities for existing and prospective members, which may have a fundraising component.
• Develops and maintains strong, positive relationships with collaborative partners ensuring that mutually agreed upon expectations are being met.
• Monitors, supports, motivates, and formally recognizes volunteers and their work.
• Assesses the need for volunteers to enhance program/service delivery with the appropriate budget for the different volunteer program activities happening throughout the year.
• Conducts ongoing evaluations of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implements improvements as necessary.
Communications:
• Coordinates the development of the appropriate collateral materials for member recruitment, as approved by the Director of Communications & Fundraising.
• Promotes volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns.
• Coordinates member communication activities and ensures the purpose of the organization and its actions is clearly communicated.
• Supports the Communications & Fundraising Director in communicating success stories of the differences the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is making in the lives of those less fortunate.


Other elements include but are not limited to:
• Collects volunteer information, availability, and skills, and maintaining an up-to-date
database
• Develops and provides monthly and annual reports on all individual and group volunteer
activities to the Director of Communications and Fundraising.
• Administration and data management associated with the position.
• Support fundraising and communications efforts of the Society and the Conference
Members.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or a related field or a combination of education
and experience may be considered.
• 3 years recent relevant experience, in a non-profit, membership-based organization.
• Previous experience in member management, volunteering, or recruitment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and contact management systems

Additional Requirements:

  • A Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
  • This position requires travelling to the conference locations in communities across
    Vancouver Island. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required.
