About the Role
The Electrical Engineer will be based out of our Victoria office and will work closely with a Senior Engineer. The engineer will be exposed to the entire project lifecycle from feasibility and planning to detailed design, construction, and commissioning. The engineer will be responsible for developing studies, electrical design details, preparing construction documents, conducting site reviews, contract administration, and attending client facing meetings. We are looking for someone with consulting experience who wants to work in a collaborative team environment with a mentor to further develop their technical skillset. This role will focus on electrical systems for healthcare facilities, infrastructure, and institutional facilities.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work under the direction of the Healthcare Team Lead to project manage and develop construction document packages and reports
- Assist lead Engineers with planning, studies, and assessments
- Conduct site reviews to determine and document existing conditions
- Prepare engineering studies and design calculations such as feeder sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, fault current, lighting calculations, etc.
- Layout electrical equipment and wiring devices, branch circuiting, lighting design, life safety systems, communication systems, healthcare specific systems, and security systems
- Preparing electrical design mark-ups for the drafting department and coordinating electrical package production
- Liaise with utilities for new services
- Liaise with Clients
- Oversee construction and commissioning process, and prepare documentation such as field reports, change orders, and shop drawing review
- Coordinate with Architects, Interior Designers, and other professionals
Our Must Haves:
- Ability to register as an EIT or P.Eng. with EGBC
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
- Experience in electrical consulting engineering, specifically in the building industry
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, specifications, and various other construction documentation
- Familiarity with the design of electrical power distribution systems, generator systems, life safety systems, lighting systems, communications, and security systems
- Familiarity with IM/IT or ICT systems will be considered an asset
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with clients and other disciplines (Architectural, Mechanical, interior designers, etc.)
- Ability to quickly adopt and use company-specific techniques, standards and procedures
- Detail-oriented and accountable
- Self-starter with the desire to work within an office-based team environment
- Organized and able to prioritize various tasks and have a flexible approach to assignments
- Experience working with the Canadian Electrical Code
- Knowledge of industry-specific codes and standards (ASHRAE, BCBC, NECB, Z32, C282, etc.)
