What you will do:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Hotel Accountant will be responsible for the overall management of the hotel's accounting, financial reporting, and operational reporting systems and operations. As a senior leader, the Hotel Accountant will also ensure the safety and control of hotel assets and they will work collaboratively with other hotel leaders to optimize operations, revenue, profitability, safety and quality.

The Hotel Accountant will also:

  • Manage all accounting functions and all financially related activities of the Hotel; including reporting, payroll, credit, systems management, cash management, food and beverage cost control, receiving, purchasing, inventory, yield management, capital planning and budgeting.
  • Provide meaningful and appropriate forecasting.
  • Coordinate and prepare annual Operating and Capital budgets, strategic plans, annual audits, financial reports, analysis of budgets.
  • Produce, review, & present monthly financial results interpreting results and trending, reacting proactively.
  • Work with other hotel leaders to maximize revenue and profitability, ensuring cost control.
  • Maintain account reconciliations; including banks, assets, liabilities, receivables and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Monitor, test, and ensure timely taking of operating equipment and other inventories.
  • Complete payroll processing, monitoring daily and periodic time data and labour costs. Maintain payroll records, pay appropriate taxes and submit information as required.
  • Manage all IT systems and activities.
  • Review tax returns to ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Manage cash receipts and daily audits.
  • Manage Accounts Receivable, Invoicing, and Collections.
  • Conduct checks on departmental compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain excellent employee relations.
  • Be a proactive problem solver.
  • Be a mentor and help develop the hotel's leaders and future leaders.
  • Ensure consistent compliance with service and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with hotel leadership and ownership ensuring insurance, licensing, reporting and taxation are current and appropriate.
  • Other appropriate duties.

Your skillset includes:

  • Accounting experience, preferably in hospitality as an Accounting Manager, or in a senior hospitality accounting role.
  • Experience as a leader in a lifestyle hotel is preferred.
  • Appropriate Professional Designation, Education, Degree, or Diploma in accounting, finance, or business.
  • Appropriate computer skills, including experience with Opera, Micros, Microsoft Office, Sage 300 (Formerly AccPac)
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other hotel leaders.
  • Demonstratable team-building experience and ability to lead by example.
  • A results-oriented history of success.
  • Experience in training and developing employees.
  • Comfort dealing with continual change and dynamic hotel needs.
