A leading Western Canada company specialize in plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and fire protection is now looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team.

The Senior Estimator will analyze and prepare estimates on a wide variety of construction projects. Accurately estimate the direct and indirect competitive costs of compiling a project within a scheduled timeline. And to provide material and labour costs for change orders on projects currently awarded to the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare estimates of accurate costs of materials, labour and equipment, and subcontracts for construction projects based on contract documents, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
  • To carry out estimating for Mechanical projects – internal and external clients.
  • Assist the Design-Build team as required.
  • Maintain and build relationships with clients and sub-trades.
  • Provide material and labour take-offs for SIs on projects currently underway by the company.
  • Prepares construction budget by studying plans, updating specifications, and identifying and projecting costs for each elevation.
  • Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; and negotiating prices.
  • Maintains cost keys and price master's by updating information.
  • Resolves cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
  • Maintains continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Understand and establish the requirements of potential clients by reviewing architectural and mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Analyze drawings and accurately determine the probable quantity of materials, labour and equipment required.
  • Prepare reports and analyses pertinent to construction estimating as requested by management.
  • Obtaining and negotiating prices from suppliers and subcontractors for required materials and services.
  • Compile information to prepare estimates of projects probable costs based on contract bids, quotations, tender drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Prepare economic feasibility studies on changes or adjustments to estimate costs.
  • Prepare tender documents such as bill of quantities; invitations and submissions for sub-trades; requests for quotes on equipment; formatting list of tender inclusions and exclusions; and all requests for information and addenda.
  • Developing knowledge relevant to specification conditions and their applications.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive and productive work environment between yourself, your communication channels, and all the members of the team.
  • Support, promote and contribute to the continuous improvement of business operations and relationships, support and develop team members by mentoring.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of estimating work experience in the mechanical contracting industry
  • Fully understand the Contractual Obligations of a Mechanical Contractor
  • Understand the costs of Project Bonding
  • QuickPen Auto Bid Mechanical Estimating software
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office applications in particular – MS Project, MS Excel, and MS Outlook, along with the ability to quickly learn new applications
  • Ability to close jobs
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and technical specifications
  • Ability to manage vendor relationships and performance
  • Knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations
  • Able to interact and communicate effectively, both written and oral
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are a must
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize

Pay: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
