Who is a Manager of Accounting – Accounts Receivable?

The Manager of Accounting - Accounts Receivable is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Accounts Receivable Team to ensure that amounts owed to the company are recorded accurately, as well as for developing and improving systems, processes, and procedures. As a leader, the Manager sets a clear vision for the Accounts Receivable Team and provides the necessary resources, direction, and feedback to make team and individual performance goals attainable. The Manager recognizes the skills and capabilities of individual team members and focuses on removing barriers, pursuing constant improvement while demonstrating fair decision making and retaining responsibility for results. By ensuring that receivable amounts are recorded, collected, and applied accurately, the Manager helps to maintain the company's reputation with its customers and contributes to the financial health of the company.

What will you be doing?

  • Manages the processes and systems utilized by the Accounts Receivable Team based on industry best practices and problem-solving skills to ensure accurate accounting for amounts due to the company. Ensures accurate billing and collection for various receivables, including member accounts, corporate partners, subtenants, and related parties
  • Ensures the accurate application of bank deposits and credit card payments to the correct customer accounts
  • Designs and implements procedures and systems to increase Team productivity and reduce errors. Analyzes, refines, and documents controls, policies, and procedures to ensure that best practices are being followed.
  • Oversees the review and analysis of monthly and annual financial statement information to ensure the accuracy of receivable balances.
  • Ensures all accounts receivable transactions are posted to the general ledger for the correct period and amounts are correct
  • Records appropriate reserves for uncollectible amounts
  • Maintains account reconciliations for assigned receivable accounts, including reconciliation of Accounts Receivable subledgers to the corresponding general ledger control accounts.
  • Liaises with other departments to ensure the appropriate flow of information between them and the Accounts Receivable Team.
  • Coordinates with Protective Data Systems, Technology & Innovation, and Member Accounts Departments to ensure accurate processing of member accounts transactions
  • Coordinates with Corporate Business Development department to ensure collection of outstanding invoices
  • Ensures accurate tracking of receivables for trades of memberships for goods and services related to marketing partnerships
  • Reviews related party financial reporting for accuracy and ensures integration of balances into consolidated financial statements
  • Manages direct reports and the people requirements of the Accounts Receivable Team using provided tools and resources to ensure the successful execution of all the Team's key responsibilities and tasks, retention of great talent, and high Associate engagement.
  • Assigns responsibilities to direct reports so that Associates can capitalize on their strengths and regularly feel a sense of accomplishment.
  • Leads the onboarding, coaching, learning, development, and performance management of all direct reports to ensure a positive and safe working experience.
  • Facilitates recruitment of direct reports alongside the Talent Acquisition Department to ensure adequate resourcing based on approved Team budget.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Post-Secondary degree or equivalent accounting experience
  • 5 years' experience in accounting
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for email and internet
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to analyze information and make decisions based on available data
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to convey information and influence outcomes
  • Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple commitments and adapt to ongoing troubleshooting requests
  • Ability to work independently with demonstrated initiative while working toward team goals and timelines
