JOB DESCRIPTION
The Strategic Planning Specialist supports the Manager of Strategic Planning by coordinating and leading the development of strategic goals across the business, ensuring alignment across various functions and fostering collaboration among internal stakeholders at all levels of leadership. The Specialist is expected to demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, build strong relationships, and exhibit leadership behaviors that promote teamwork and strategic thinking. Additionally, the Specialist will support Business Development initiatives, contribute to the production of the annual operating plan, and assist in Risk Management activities. Leveraging data, indirect influence, and subject-matter expertise, the Specialist will guide decision-making processes and act as a primary point of contact for resolving issues before they escalate to senior management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the business to identify, plan and execute their strategic objectives and roadmaps, ensuring consistency and adherence to organizational templates, methodology and reporting.
- Organize, attend, and participate (or facilitate) in stakeholder meetings ensuring clear agenda items are identified pre-meetings and minutes are provided post-meetings, following up on important actions and decisions when appropriate.
- Work with business functions, Strategic Planning & BI team to identify opportunities to improve processes as part of the strategic roadmaps, recognizing and resolving or facilizing interdependencies across ISI and departments.
- Produce relevant reports to track and monitor ISI and functional strategic objectives including developing and/or managing dashboards.
- Support Enterprise Risk Management to identify, monitor and close out organizational risks, including owning the ERM dashboard/reporting.
- Develop and maintain project documentation, including schedules, RAID logs, keeping stakeholders focused on agreed timeframes, objectives, and communications.
- Assist in the assessing of business, program, and project risks, providing solutions where applicable or escalating to Strategic Planning Manager's attention when challenges occur.
- Support steering change management methodology and standard practices across the organization to transform culture and behaviors.
- Build trusting relationships and personal credibility through active listening, knowledge, and delivery to drive the business forward.
- Support the creation of material, such as PowerPoint decks, for meetings and seniors briefings.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related discipline or 3 years' experience in a shipbuilding business (desired).
- Experience (typically 2-5 years) applying knowledge of corporate strategic planning, enterprise governance, or defense sector expertise (desired).
- Ability to interpret business information (ambiguous / blue sky discussions) into meaningful actions or output.
- Foundational knowledge or understanding of project management, change management.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
- Highly organized self-starter who takes the initiative and is efficient in prioritizing workloads including multi-tasking to ensure deadlines and milestones are achieved.
- Proficient communications skills and the ability to engage with all levels of Project teams and leadership, including presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with key stakeholders.
- Problem solver; group facilitation.
- Combine logical thinking, predictive analytics and statistical interpretation skills to make recommend improvements and solutions to problems which propel the business forward.
- Oriented to continuous improvement.
