JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of the Electrical Engineering team, the successful candidate will provide technical oversight and support, initially on the Command & Surveillance and Science Systems, then throughout the broader design, construction, testing / commissioning, and delivery of multiple classes of Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard vessels. This oversight and support will be provided through the application of practical job knowledge that is typically obtained through advanced education and work experience in the field of ship design and construction.
The Electrical Engineer will work independently with general supervision from the Electrical Engineering Manager to review subcontractor calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications to ensure that electrical requirements from the customer, Classification Society, and shipyard have been achieved in the design. They will also be responsible for developing solutions to resolve technical issued encountered during construction.
To support the major new design and construction projects that are underway the Electrical Engineer will be expected to work in both an office and shipbuilding industrial environment to provide Engineering Solutions to complex problems through the application of theoretical, practical, and lean engineering principles. The Electrical Engineer will also support/mentor junior colleagues in the team with their work scopes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initial area of focus to be heavily based on Electrical Engineering support for Command & Surveillance, and Science Systems on AOPS build.
- Technical Oversight of the design as it relates to above system(s), Reviewing drawings, coordinating with production teams.
- Technical Management of external stakeholders.
- Technical Management of the Design Agent, as it relates to above systems.
- General Electrical Engineering Support.
- Customer management (Internal and External), as it relates to above systems.
- Procurement support, as it relates to above systems.
- Change management, as it relates to above systems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Accredited degree in Electrical Engineering
- Registration with or eligible for registration with Engineers Nova Scotia as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng)
- Experience:
- 4-8 years
- Experience integrating electrical systems.
- Project management experience
- Marine design and/or build experience considered an asset.
All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
