JOB DESCRIPTION
The Materials Supervisor will lead and direct unionized warehouse crews. They will manage the activities of a crew of 8-10 people alongside hundreds of other skilled trades in a safe and efficient manner. They will oversee the seamless flow of materials. This role is responsible for receiving, shipping, issuing, and delivering materials to support production. The Materials Supervisor holds a crucial responsibility for maintaining the accuracy of the inventory within their designated area. They will be responsible for the safety of their crew and quality of the output of work. The Materials Supervisor will assume full accountability for their area. The Materials Supervisor will develop the team's competency as part of continuous improvement efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Warehouse activity
- Safety - Drive the safety culture and ensure procedures are followed and that no work commences without a DPS and Safe Start.
- Participate in daily production meetings to present and discuss information material updates.
- Monitoring of operations to ensure that priorities are maintained, and deliverables are met.
- Support the execution of work across multiple trades through material delivery: rigging, welding, fitting, outfitting, HVAC, pipe, mechanical and electrical.
Communications
- Assist the team with issue resolution and priority definition.
- Report generation, development, and presentation.
- Update production and schedule metrics on communications boards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge - education, certificates, licenses, registration, and knowledge required
- Post-secondary education in a related field.
Technical Skills - required skills to apply knowledge
- 5+ years of supervisory experience, with at least 2 years being in a warehouse, inventory control, logistics, or distribution, environment - Shipbuilding and Ship Repair is preferred.
- 6+ years of warehouse, inventory control, logistics, or distribution experience in shipbuilding, defence, manufacturing or a similar environment.
- A proven record of managing a unionized workforce in a safe and efficient manner.
Social Process Skills - required skills for effective working relationships
- Capability to deal with complex technical issues.
- Strong human relation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
