JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maintenance Inspector is an individual who proactively participates in maintenance and reliability activities, assimilates all the key data that is collected from those activities and determines how best to maintain and repair major/critical equipment. The role is like that of a quarterback to ensure all maintenance personnel are working in unison to achieve the best results. The inspector should identify any maintenance department deficiencies that do not contribute to the best result, in other words a stringent critic of the maintenance department.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Equipment Criticality
    • Continuously assess the potential for major/critical equipment and any equipment that could cause production downtime.
    • Influence critical equipment major maintenance schedule by defining the frequency and length of turnarounds.
  • Equipment Field Inspections
    • Create inspection routes for themselves to inspect critical equipment condition.
  • Integration of Equipment Health Data for Major/Critical Equipment
    • Integrate all equipment condition knowledge.
    • Leads all equipment interventions to maximize maintenance and repair effectiveness.
    • Reviews all inspections, preventive/predictive maintenance activities, and repair standards to recommend the most effective interventions.
  • Equipment Life Cycle Assessment
    • Recommend major maintenance activities based on equipment health data.
    • Recommend sustaining capital projects that replace critical equipment or improve productivity.
  • Key Performance Indicators
    • Provide Input for Key Performance Indicators.
    • Implement improvements from Key Performance trends.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures.
    • Provide input to safety concerns of major equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge - education, certificates, licenses, registration, and knowledge required

  • Trade certification, college diploma, or degree is required (industrial electrician, industrial mechanic, heavy duty mechanic, and instrumentation technician; or electrical, mechanical, mobile equipment, or instrumentation discipline). Preference given to candidates with multiple disciplines.
  • Strong proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email, excel, and spreadsheets.
  • Proactively stays on top of industry and business trends that relate to my area of specialty.

Technical Skills - required skills to apply knowledge

  • Preference given to a candidate who have the following skills: machinist, vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared thermography, acoustic emissions, electrical equipment testing, non-destructive testing, online equipment monitoring, power generation, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System. Proficiency with JD Edwards (E1) would be an advantage.
  • Preference given to a candidate who has experience with industrial equipment.
  • It is necessary that the candidate have well developed and demonstrated troubleshooting skills.

Social Process Skills - required skills for effective working relationships

  • Maintenance experience in an industrial setting (electrical, mechanical, mobile, instrumentation, facilities, and reliability). Preference given to a candidate who has supervised multiple skills from the list above.
  • Implements change initiatives and effectively influence others to drive commitment.
  • Consistently provides relevant information and expertise that adds value to the work of others.
