JOB DESCRIPTION
A Work Practicum with J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) will provide you with valuable, hands-on work experience where you will put your studies into practice. You will expand your professional network by gaining exposure to our leadership teams and developing your skills with cutting-edge technology. Your practicum will give you both practical experience and professional development, preparing you for a successful career with JDI!
As a valued member of our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to key initiatives while gaining insight into what a career in Finance with JDI looks like. In order to help you in starting to build your professional career, we plan various company events throughout the placement such as networking lunches, team building events, panels with some of our leadership team, virtual tours of facilities, professional development workshops, and more.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Exposure to multiple areas within Finance, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury, Client Services, Payroll and Reporting
- Test internal controls identified in the compliance program
- Assist in the gathering of information for internal and external reporting
- Professional development and mentorship opportunities
- Utilization of cutting-edge tools and technology to complete data analysis and visualizations
- Project management and process optimization
QUALIFICATIONS
- A good academic standing and are currently enrolled at NBCC
- A long-term interest in a career in Finance
- High energy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- An ability to work well in a team
- Attention to detail
- A change mindset with an eye for process improvement
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel)
