JOB DESCRIPTION
The Workplace Accommodation Coordinator facilitates and works directly with employees who've incurred an occupational or non-occupational disability/injury, with the primary intent to safely return the employee back to work as soon as possible. Also acting as a key liaison between the Employees, Supervisors/Managers, Physiotherapy, Disability Manager, and other key stakeholders, the Workplace Accommodation Coordinator is a critical component in helping reduce injuries across Irving Shipbuilding, as well as controlling costs when an injury occurs.
Responsible for maximizing rehabilitation outcomes for Employees and minimizing the impact on claim premiums, while maintaining a positive safety culture.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adheres to the NS WCB Act of Nova Scotia, as well as NS WCB policies.
- Proactively/collaboratively facilitates a return to work/ stay at work for injured employees (to a pre-injury condition) - working with the injured employee, medical professionals, Managers/Sup'vrs, WCB Case Workers, Disability Manager and others.
- Develops/maintains highly accurate/detailed data, information, trends and statistics, by which to help analyze success of Irving Shipbuilding's Workplace Accommodation/Disability Management Programs. Also expected to make regular detailed recommendations to HSE leadership regarding trends, process improvements/alignment, etc.
- Prepares regular and highly detailed Reports/information related to Workplace Accommodation management and performance, thereby utilizing this to proactively support safer workplace practices.
- Regularly plans and develops detailed internal Workplace Accommodation Communications/Awareness type information, which also includes providing regular RTW Awareness training pan-Irving Shipbuilding.
- Chairs weekly Workplace Accommodation Committee meeting with stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated commitment to lead the coordination of worker compensation boards, claim management, expected outcomes and early intervention strategies.
- Highly developed/detailed interpersonal, verbal, written communication with the ability to lead, persuade, negotiate, consult with and provide advice on case management and rehabilitation issues.
- Active management of injuries and other medical conditions into transitional duties.
- Problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills within a Unionized environment.
- Annually, create the necessary detailed KPIs/Metrics/Goals that will help assess the success of the Workplace Accommodation programs. Also, possess an ability to embrace technology and numerous databases/platforms for case management, interpreting/identifying trends, etc.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree health-related discipline
- Disability/Case Management
- Computer literacy, MS Word, Excel and email
