JOB DESCRIPTION
The Control System Commissioning Supervisor is responsible to supervise, lead and support trades team members on a daily basis while reporting to the Test & Trials Manager. You would be one of two Control System Supervisors expected to work closely and co-ordinate with other Test & Trial Supervisors, other company departments as well as our Customer and Lloyd's inspectors.
Commission the ship-board Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) control system, which includes integration of Power/Propulsion/Auxiliary/Damage Control/CCTV systems, emergency/fire/safety shutdowns & interlocks and UPS Power Systems.
The CS Supervisor is expected to engage in a hands-on, proactive manner to identify any design issues and to troubleshoot complex technical issues before they could impact the trials program all while holding each team member accountable for their performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and lead multi-skilled crew of unionized trades team members to pre-commission/test system I/O, set-to-work systems, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment and systems onboard new construction and ship repair areas.
- Verify system handovers for completion and quality.
- Perform trials to demonstrate system operation to our customer and inspectors in harbor and at sea.
- Ensure work is progressing safely, efficiently and correctly in accordance with ship build schedule.
- Co-ordinate scheduled and unscheduled work activities within the Trials team and with Production team counterparts.
- Recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
- Train crew members in job duties, safety procedures and company policies.
- Performance Manage assigned crew members.
- Complete daily time entry for assigned crew members.
- Prepare production and other reports.
- Ensure compliance with all Company Environmental, Health and Safety policies.
- Ensure strict adherence to Company quality procedures and policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education Required: Completion of relevant Red Seal Trades certificate, University, College, Technical or Vocational Training.
- Years of Experience: 5+ years' experience in one of, or a combination of, the following:
- Commissioning naval or commercial ships in a new construction program, or comparable experience in naval ship modernization and overhaul.
- Commissioning high tech systems in process plants, power plants.
- FPSO's or offshore production platforms considered an asset.
- Seagoing naval or commercial engineering experience.
- Production Supervisor, Production Work Lead, Chargehand or trades work experience in a Marine/Industrial/Shipbuilding environment.
- Proficient with DCS/PLC controls, fire systems, instrumentation, computer networking, CCTV, considered an asset.
- Applicants should have a proven record of managing work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Experience mentoring, training and/or coaching.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Efficient working with Microsoft Office Suite, Kronos, Aveva considered an asset.
- Problem solving skills and ability to lead and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
