JOB DESCRIPTION
Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Specialist for the 2nd shift (4:30PM - 1:00AM).
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safety coaching for all personnel, including sub-contractors
  • Remain a consistent positive role model with focus on continual professional development and maintenance of competency of all Advisors
  • Conduct safety investigation and participate in incident investigations and JOHSC meetings
  • Conduct new hire orientations for employees
  • Assist in the development of training programs to support employee training and development
  • Conduct focus inspections across all departments and facilities I.e paint booth, PPE, ventilation
  • Complete reviews of HSE policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable provincial regulations and CSA standards
  • Facilitate Risk Assessments with Hazard Owner(s)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:
    • OHS Diploma or certification required
    • Ability to obtain Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation
    • Ability to obtain National Construction Safety Officer designation
    • Post-Secondary degree in Safety would be considered an asset
  • Experience: 3-5 years of applicable safety experience in an industrial environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the NS HSE Act and Regulations
  • Experience working in confined spaces is considered an asset
  • Ability to facilitate training and conduct effective presentations
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
