The Assembly, Commissioning and Electrical (ACE) Branch, at the Chalk River Laboratories, designs, develops, assembles, and verifies equipment to support needs of the nuclear industry. A typical example of the equipment developed would be tooling to perform remote inspection of a nuclear facility. This opportunity is for an electrical engineering student to contribute to this team in the design and assembly of electrical systems to support this equipment.

Duration: 4 months (May-August)
Field of Study: software or mechatronics engineering students (or similar discipline).
Year of study: 3rd or 4th year or higher
What you will be doing:
- Writing and developing software using general purpose programming languages.
- Evaluating and selecting programmable electronic systems such as data acquisition hardware, real-time controllers, microcontrollers and personal computers.
- Assisting with lab testing of software integration with designed equipment.
- Helping conceptualize component prototypes and testing mock-ups, when applicable.
- Working with a multi-disciplined team to select, develop, and test software and hardware for integration with mechanical equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- Education/Experience
- Should be enrolled in a software or mechatronics engineering program(or similar discipline).
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A desire to innovate.
- Design and development of PLC and/or LabVIEW control/acquisition/automation systems.
- Implementation of microcontrollers and single board computer such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
- Able to evaluate and select hardware as required to support mechanical systems.
- A keen interest and in robotics, digital twinning, machine vision and artificial intelligence.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
