The Successful Candidate Will:

Support staff with challenging behaviours observed at camp, and implementing The Town of Newmarket's behaviour management policy in addressing such behaviours.

Collaborate with camp supervisors to ensure all camp environments meet the needs of our campers by implementing behaviour management techniques, and provide support all camp staff to feel empowered to handle camper behaviours.

Create and distribute visual support tools such as first-then boards, visual schedules, token boards, and zones of regulation based on information provided by parents/guardians and camp staff, as well as observations during site visits.

Assists with overseeing and supporting staff including scheduling, coaching, performance reviews, and staff discipline.

Visit camp sites daily to ensure camps are following all Town policies, procedures and bylaws, as well as provide suggestions to improve the quality of our camp services and behaviour management techniques.

Plans and facilitates staff trainings and meetings in collaboration with the Recreation Programmer and Camp Coordinator team, with a focus on 1:1 staff and leading behaviour management workshops.

Purchase and create behaviour management aids and tools such as fidget kits, sensory bins, etc.

Collaborates with outside user groups to ensure all parties are on the same page in delivering safe and quality programming. User groups may include Aquatics, Facilities, Customer Service, Parks, Vendor Camps, etc.

Respond to inquiries and resolve escalated concerns from camp staff and parents/guardians, as well as behavioural crisis and emergency situations.

Post-secondary education in related discipline such as Recreation and Leisure, teaching, behaviour science etc., combined with progressive experience in recreation programming and/or equivalent combination and related equivalent experience.

Experience in a supervisory role in a related field.

Extensive experience working with children, youth and/or adults in recreational delivery settings including persons with disabilities and implementing/consulting others on behaviour management strategies.

Excellent leadership, organizational, public relations and time management skills.

Ability to work in a team environment, collaborate with co-workers and deal courteously and effectively with staff, participants, parents/guardians and the general public.

Strong working knowledge of computers in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook); Xplor experience is an asset.

Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.

Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.

Behaviour Management Systems, Safe Management or Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification required.

Lifesaving Society's Safeguard certification required.

Class "G" Driver's License in good standing and a reliable vehicle for corporate business.

Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
