PART-TIME "LIFEGUARD/INSTRUCTORS" - Aquatics
Reporting to: Supervisor of Aquatics and Recreation Programs

Salary Range (Lifeguard): $18.73 - $20.16 as per Schedule "A"
Salary Range (Instructor): $23.98 - $28.19as per Schedule "A"
Starting Date: As soon as possible

Lifeguard Responsibilities:
- Performs lifeguard duties during swim/fitness classes, recreation swim sessions, swim meets, and pool rentals to the public. Included are duties such as, but not limited to:
- Places safety equipment and buoy lines appropriately
- Informs public of water safety practices
- Patrols swimming pool and change rooms ensuring public is observing safety practices
- Maintain a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment
- Performs rescues and administers first aid as required
- Maintain a clean facility
- Administer facility admission swim tests
- Help operate the facility within the provincial health guidelines and city of Woodstock operational procedures
- Must maintain standard of care set out in the National Lifeguard program and by the City of Woodstock Policies and procedures, in the health and safety program in place
- Qualifications must remain current at all times (within two years of certification date)
- Performs facility maintenance and cleaning duties from time to time, as assigned by the on-site supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.
- Works with minimal supervision.
- Required to attend all in-service training sessions.
Instructor Responsibilities:
- Instructs City sponsored swimming programs,
- Lifesaving Society swim (Parent and Tot, Preschool, Youth and Adult)
- Lifesaving Society Swim Patrol programs, and Bronze family programs
- Lifesaving Society First Aid programs
- Specific City programs such as adult fitness (ex. Aquafitness)
- Performs duties such as, but not limited to:
- Take attendance
- Prepare lesson plans and modify supplied lesson plans
- Complete and submit class test sheets in timely order, and other administrative duties as assigned
- Instruct class and oversee Assistant Instructors
- Evaluate candidates according to the must sees of the program(s) being taught
- Ensures safety supervision is maintained at all times
- Provide candidates with ongoing feedback
- Keep parents informed and assists with questions and concerns
- Refers problems or inquiries that they are unable to handle to an on duty supervisor.
- Directs emergency procedures for their programs.
- Qualifications must remain current at all times (within two years of certification date).
- Works with minimal supervision.
- Required to attend all in-service training sessions.
- Must follow the guidelines outlined in the City of Woodstock Policies and Procedures, including the health and safety program in place
- Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.

- Standard First Aid with CPR C
- Airway Management Certification
- HIGH FIVE – Principles of Healthy Child Development considered an asset
- Excellent physical condition to consistently perform National Lifeguard physical standards and rescues
- Ability to pleasantly deal with the public
- National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option
- Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor certifications
- Standard First Aid with CPR C
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development
- Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1 considered an asset
- Excellent physical condition to consistently perform National Lifeguard physical standards and rescues
- Good supervisory skills
- Ability to pleasantly deal with the public
- Aquatic vision requirements:
- Visual acuity of 20/20 corrected with at least one eye and minimum of 20/40 corrected in the poorer eye
- Corrective lenses to achieve 20/20 vision must be worn and secured at all times when on duty
- Peripheral vision of 120 degrees with both eyes used together
Hours of work not to exceed forty-eight (48) hours in a two week period in accordance with the C.U.P.E., Local 1146 - Inside/Part-time Unit collective agreement.
