The Senior Project Engineer will support the Engineering Department in carrying out its responsibilities. The candidate will be an integral team member to a growing and dynamic engineering team and will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment using the latest technology.

They will work with other team members in the delivery of work related to mechanical/civil wastewater engineering design. Technologies include lagoon-based treatment systems, SAGR, MBBR, IFAS, aeration systems, blowers, sand filters, disk filters, chemical dosing systems, mixers, sensors, and analytical instrumentation. Responsible for working on, and completing detailed engineering design, as well as providing design and technical support to applications engineers, sales team and the bid team. This role involves a high level of multitasking for a wide variety of projects focused during the pre-construction and tender phase. This role will report to the Director of Project Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Transform preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs and project informational requirements

Perform design calculations, coordinate with drafting personnel for the preparation of preliminary drawings for process piping and mechanical designs including P&IDs, PFDs, and process mechanical layouts

Assist applications engineering in determining budgeting, general conditions and strategic position for project opportunities being considered

Assist with preparation of technical documents required for preliminary designs, RFPs, and bids, including project specific specifications, drawings, and equipment details

Communicate with and provide technical support to application engineering, sales, and bid team during the pre-design, bid, and design phases as well as during construction if technical discussions are required

Review project plans and specifications and comment on the design, scheduling, potential cost saving measures in addition to construction challenges and risks

Read, interpret and understand bid packages, contract drawings and technical specifications with a solid understanding of trade specific scopes of work

Assist with preparation of detailed and accurate project scopes of work

Specify, issue requests, and receive quotations for specialty items required for projects

Prepare and/or review technical writing as required, such as Installation instructions, work instructions, Operation & Maintenance manuals, documents required for approvals, etc.

Work as part of a team in the cost effective, proper and timely production of engineering and construction designs, drawings, and plans, that meet established requirements and standards

Provide technical support to Project Managers during and after initial project hand-off

Qualifications

Diploma in Mechanical / Civil / Chemical Engineering, P.Eng. or eligible

Process/mechanical/civil design and/or construction experience

Work experience with water/wastewater equipment, and/or process equipment considered an asset

Municipal civil construction estimating experience considered an asset

Work experience in a general contracting or construction environment considered an asset

Required Skills

High degree of technical competence

Must have a good understanding of process/civil/mechanical engineering fundamentals, design practices, and civil/mechanical drawing conventions; an above average mechanical aptitude is important

Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and build long-term relationships with engineering consultants, owners, general contractors, sub-trades and suppliers required.

Excellent written and verbal communication, research, analytical, interpersonal

Desire to continually develop professional skills

Self-starter with a strong ability to work independently while functioning as part of an effective team

Attention to detail and well organized

Able to work with flexibility while maintaining high standards and quality work

Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines

Capable of working in a fast-paced environment on project ranging from preliminary studies to detailed design

Proficiency in Excel and MS Word, and knowledge of AutoCAD required.

Infrequent travel to customer sites in Canada and the US may be required

Valid Driver's license
