We are currently seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Engineering Department.

POSITION SUMMARY:

• Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for the design of lead system structures and mechanical components using SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
• As a member of the engineering team, this position will be the primary contact for the assigned projects with suppliers, customers, and all internal functional areas.
• Required to work closely with sales and manufacturing teams to ensure the design is meeting the customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product

• Design mechanical systems for pile driving or drilling leads and create production drawings utilizing 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (SolidWorks) CAD systems.
• Prepare and maintain engineering documents such as engineering calculations, drawings, and product operator's manuals.
• Perform/supervise equipment testing to ensure performance expectations are validated.
• Accountable for ensuring that the scope, function, budget, cost, schedule, and shipping target for the assigned projects are achieved.
• Responsible for advising the Engineering Manager when there is concern that these targets are at risk.
• Carry out assignments of considerable variety requiring a sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and practices.

Strategy

• Execution of engineering goals and objectives as set by the Engineering Manager.
• Provides input to the development of product strategy and long-range product development plans.
• Coordinates with Engineering Manager to ensure all engineering objectives are in alignment.
• Establishes and implements controls engineering standards consistent with Berminghammer objectives.
• Interfaces with all Berminghammer functional areas to ensure accurate interpretation of all Design concepts and drawings.
• Be an active participant and key stakeholder in SB Canada's Health and Safety Program; helping to contribute to a positive safety culture as we move from compliance to care.

• Quality Assurance support.

• Other engineering project support, as required.

Financial

• Propose and lead cost improvement opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Diploma or Degree in Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng) or eligible is an asset.

Experience:

• 5-10 years in heavy equipment design and manufacturing experience.
• Design and detail mechanical components using SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software.
• Heavy-structural mechanical design experience.
• Proven experience with FEA, welding, and machining principles. Knowledge of GD&T is an asset.
• Able to perform and document mechanical design calculations.
• Working knowledge of North American and European Safety Codes.

Specific Skill, Ability, and Knowledge:

• Demonstrates professional communication skills in dealing with customers and suppliers.
• Interacts with Sales, Service, Purchasing, and Manufacturing personnel in a professional manner.
• Travels to customer sites as required (5 %- 10%).
• Experience in AutoCAD and SolidWorks (Part, assembly, and drawings).
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
