Project Engineer

We are presently seeking a Project Engineer to work with other team members in the delivery of work related to water and wastewater engineering design. Responsible for detailed design calculations and coordination of submittal packages and shop drawings. Responsibilities also include providing design support to our project management teams, sales teams, as well as outside clients. This role involves a high level of multitasking while working on a wide variety of water and wastewater construction projects. The ideal candidate enjoys working as a team player in a flexible work environment and seeing their work to completion from conception through fabrication. The candidate will report to the Project Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of a team in the cost effective, proper, and timely production of engineering and fabrication designs, documentation, and drawings that meet established requirements and standards

• Transform preliminary concepts and sketches into engineered designs and project informational requirements

• Perform design calculations, coordinate with drafting personnel for the preparation of shop drawings for process including P&IDs, PFDs, and process equipment layouts

• Prepare detailed submittal packages for approvals including Installation, Operation & Maintenance manuals

• Communicate with key vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers, review and approve shop drawings

• Assist applications engineering in determining design layouts, general conditions, and budgeting for project opportunities being considered.

• Communicate with and provide technical support to engineering consultants and owners during the design phase as well as during construction when technical discussions are required.

• Review project plans and specifications and comment on the design, scheduling, potential cost saving measures in addition to fabrication challenges and risks.

• Provide technical support for the Project Management team.

• Liaison between Engineering team and Procurement team

Qualifications

• Diploma in Chemical, Mechanical / Civil Engineering, CET, P.Eng. or other applicable degree, diploma or designation

• Minimum 3 years of water and wastewater process design experience

• Municipal/Civil consulting experience considered an asset

• Construction experience, work experience with water and wastewater equipment, and/or process equipment considered an asset

Required Skills

• High degree of technical competence

• Must have a good understanding of civil/mechanical engineering fundamentals, design practices, and civil/mechanical drawing conventions; an above average mechanical aptitude is important

• Desire to continually develop professional skills

• Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively and build long-term relationships with engineering consultants, owners, general contractors, sub-trades and suppliers required.

• Self-starter with a strong ability to work independently while functioning as part of an effective team.

• Attention to detail and well organized.

• Able to work with flexibility while maintaining high standards and quality work

• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.

• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment on projects ranging from preliminary studies to detailed design

• Excellent written and verbal communication, research, analytical, interpersonal

• Proficiency in Excel and MS Word, and knowledge of AutoCAD LT or estimating programs is considered an asset.
