What you will do

The purpose of the Field Engineer/Project Coordinator role is to provide civil/environmental engineering support to Miller's processing facility located in St. Jean Baptiste along Hwy 14, and to act as a project coordinator for Miller's general contracting projects when required.

Duties will be split between field work and office work and will mostly consist of planning, monitoring, and controlling ongoing civil/environmental construction projects. The candidate will work from the processing facility.

Projects at Miller's facility will include assisting with the design and construction of :

  • Hazardous waste landfills and processing cells.
  • Industrial process buildings for hazardous waste and wastewater.
  • Drainage systems of the plant footprint.
  • Geotechnical analysis and design of slopes and retaining structures.
  • Facility Roads and parking lots.
  • General contracting projects requiring coordination will include:
  • Contaminated site remediations.
  • Industrial building abatements and demolitions.
  • Landfill construction.
  • Building design and construction.

The candidate will work under a Civil P.Eng to obtain their hours towards P.Eng certification (if the candidate still has Engineer in Training status). Common responsibilities will include:

  • Managing contractors of different disciplines and ensuring they are completing the work to the specification of the provided engineered drawings or contract documents.
  • Manage project data using excel spreadsheets and Microsoft project. Provide reports to the project manager.
  • Assist in the design of various infrastructure.
  • Assist in the completion and review of safety paperwork .
  • Other commonly required activities will include: Performing volume calculations for storage capacities and field measurements, performing topographical surveying, assisting senior engineers with designs, providing AutoCAD drawings, assisting the operations team with logistics and process planning.

What you will need

  • Currently enrolled in or graduated from a university engineering program - preferably in civil, biosystems, or environmental.
  • Must be registered or qualified to register as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or P.ENG.
  • Knowledge and experience with landfill engineering, solid waste and/or hazardous waste management, wastewater treatment, drainage design, concrete design, and geotechnical design is considered an asset.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, and Project). Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D is considered an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including report writing.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Experience using survey equipment such as a transit or laser level, total station, or GPS. Experience using a drone is considered an asset.
  • Experience working around heavy construction equipment and following safety protocols is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry and hazardous materials is considered an asset.
