Software Team Manager - Embedded & Web Tech (Aerospace/Defense)

Location: Ottawa, ON (100% Onsite)

Compensation: -/ +$150K CAD( based on experience) + bonus & full benefits

About the Opportunity

A leading company in aerospace software systems is seeking a Software Team Manager to lead a growing group of embedded systems developers, full-stack engineers, and enterprise software specialists.

This is a people-first leadership role focused on shaping critical communications technologies that power aircraft systems across civilian and defense aviation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of 13 engineers (embedded, full-stack, and systems)
  • Build a strong team culture focused on delivery, innovation, and ownership
  • Partner with cross-functional groups including hardware, QA, project management, and executive leadership
  • Drive technical execution and support the full development lifecycle from prototyping to deployment
  • Support system documentation, root-cause analysis, and quality management initiatives
  • Deliver on program goals, staffing alignment, scheduling, and resourcing
  • Collaborate on product roadmaps, DevOps practices, and Agile improvements
  • Contribute to future product planning and strategic growth initiatives

What You Bring

  • 10+ years in software development with at least 5 years in team leadership
  • Strong hands-on background in Linux and web-based software development
  • Experience managing technical teams in regulated or mission-critical environments
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to lead engineers in dynamic, fast-paced settings
  • Must be based in Ottawa or willing to relocate; this is an onsite role

Bonus Points

  • Experience with embedded systems and real-time applications
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability sectors
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, product lifecycle leadership, and system certification processes
  • Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or other quality management systems
  • Success in leading technical transformation or process improvement initiatives
