Structural Design Engineer - Nuclear Projects

Compensation: $50 - $95/hour (Based on Experience - Junior to Senior Levels Considered)
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Structural Design Engineer to support the Steam Generator Replacement Project at a major nuclear facility in Tiverton, ON. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the integrity and safety of nuclear infrastructure through the development of structural designs, field change management, and compliance with industry codes. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in civil/structural engineering and a proactive approach to resolving field and design challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel and concrete structures in accordance with applicable codes (CSA S16, A23.3, N291, etc.).
- Prepare Design Change Notice (DCN) packages following nuclear industry engineering change control procedures.
- Analyze existing infrastructure and provide engineering justifications for structural modifications.
- Support field construction and commissioning activities, including responding to Field Change Notices and resolving site-related issues.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and review work from subcontractors or vendors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (construction, procurement, QA) to assess and process design change requests.
- Proactively identify and implement improvements to enhance design accuracy, constructability, and overall project efficiency.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in structural design and analysis.
- Proficient in the use of engineering software and MS Office applications.
- Strong understanding of Canadian design codes and standards (CSA S16, A23.3, etc.).
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills with a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (Highly Preferred).
- Experience in nuclear power plant environments, particularly with CANDU reactors.
- Familiarity with engineering change processes in highly regulated industries.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing project scope and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams on large capital projects (>$20M).
