ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Operation Supervisor you will lead the planning , coordination, and safe, efficient execution of daily loading, unloading and Portside Warehouse operations, in accordance with the Collective Agreement for IntermodeX. Key responsibilities include optimizing labour schedules to meet daily operational needs, managing the ordering and release of rail cars, and organizing dock doors for daily in/outbound shipments for the warehouse operations. As the on-the-floor leader, the Supervisor, Export plays a critical role in conflict resolution, operational problem-solving, and adapting to changes in the daily plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations - Day to Day Duties - 70%

  • Directly responsible for the safety of staff, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders in the warehouse.
  • Communicate and enforce all company safety policies and address concerns as necessary.
  • Correct unsafe acts as they arise and implement measures to mitigate or eliminate further risks.
  • Report all incidents in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in performing accident investigations.
  • Perform physical check of rail line to identify what cars are on site and confirm car locations in the terminal .
  • Verify CN reports match actual placement; adjusts reports and plans accordingly - advise Customer Service Representative.
  • Monitor inbound rail volumes through CN to order and release cars as required for meeting customer needs and eliminating demurrage risk.
  • Plan daily labor requirements (Pulp/Rail/Lumber) and provide loading plans to crews in order achieve maximum efficiency and throughput.
  • Effectively plan and organize utilization of the warehouse and lumber yard and ensure efficient flow and rotation of products.
  • Perform inventory counts as required.
  • Work directly with the Operations Manager, to plan, draft and implement SOPs specific to the terminal as well as work with the foremen on a day-to-day basis to ensure all SOPs are communicated and followed .
  • Provide leadership in the terminal whilst administering and providing corrective feedback - including escalated discipline to all warehouse staff.
  • Provide weekly toolbox meetings and daily crew talks with staff, to discuss safety and operational issues across the organization and documents as necessary.
  • Perform daily EHS safety observations and corrections.
  • Plan and prepare all paperwork for export and internal reporting. Ensure accuracy and pay strict attention to ERD's while coordinating loading schedules with Logistics Supervisors and Customer Service Representatives.
  • Ensure constant communication with trucking companies and the Logistics Supervisor to react to ongoing changes and effectively execute Coast 2000 Terminals' core services with optimal efficiency.
  • Perform Coast rail crew audits by evaluating and observing proficiencies of crews.

Customer Support / Administration - 25%

  • Participate in quarterly meetings as required per customer SOP.
  • Review previous days' time clock and reconcile with the plan and make adjustments as needed.
  • Provide payroll with detailed daily labor recap within each job function while accurately assigning labour hours for reporting as well as approves employee's daily hours.

WHAT YOU BRING

Knowledge

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an industrial warehouse.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct industrial supervisor experience, ideally in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in working in a unionized environment is a strong asset.
  • Post-secondary education is required, preferably in business, logistics, industrial engineering or forestry supported by ongoing courses in management, negotiations and leadership.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook and Word).

  • This position is responsible for daily communication with terminal staff to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
  • As a customer facing role, it requires professionalism to meet customer needs and maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • External communication with suppliers, vendors, regulators, and safety associations will also be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Regular presence in the warehouse, with standing and/or sitting for 8 hours per day.
  • Exposure to the outdoors, including heat, cold weather, rain, and noise.
  • Frequent interaction with heavy equipment in the terminal.
  • High mental demand strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy throughout the day.
  • Minimal travel between terminals and occasional off-site meetings may be required, with some flexibility needed.
