What Is the Opportunity?
The Specialty Insurance (SI) group at Travelers provides a broad array of competitive management liability, professional liability and surety products and coverages to businesses of all sizes. This Managing Account Executive (MAE), will work in the Specialty Insurance group and partner with the Small Business Solutions Managing Director. They will work with Financial Institutions, Private/Non-Profit, Professional Liability, Public Company Liability coverage for new and renewal business based on customers' needs. This role is seen as a technical resource in Specialty underwriting. As an MAE, you are driven, decisive, detail-oriented, and have the ability to build relationships internally and externally to drive results. Your ability to independently assess risk and promote our products in challenging markets will contribute to the profitability and success of Travelers.
What Will You Do?
Responsible for the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business through advanced knowledge and understanding of Travelers risk appetite to make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority, while managing a team of Underwriting Associates.
Help the team to underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
Work with the Managing Director, AVP, Product Development, and Chief Underwriting Office to look for efficiencies in workflows, as well as opportunities to expand the UA underwriting role and authority.
Work in Policy Centre to identify areas where underwriting authority can be expanded to increase business flow.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
Independently develop and execute sales plans (individually or through direct reports), and partner with your Managing Director (MD) to develop group sales plans, to ensure retention and new business targets are met.
Responsible for coaching, training and the performance management of assigned team.
Work closely with Senior UA/Team Lead to manage workloads and coordinate training.
Create guidance documents for the UAs with regards to underwriting initiatives such as panels, broker wordings/enhancement endorsements, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Bachelor's degree in a finance-related discipline
Six to eight years of finance-related experience or management liability, professional liability and/or surety underwriting experience
Experience leading others
Deep knowledge of management liability, professional liability and/or surety products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market
Relevant experience interacting with brokers
Associateship of Canadian Surety Bonding designation
Strong financial acumen, including the ability to analyze financial statements and client's operational history
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to successfully negotiate with brokers in difficult situations
Working knowledge the of Policy Centre platform and workflows
What is a Must Have?
Four years of finance-related experience or relevant insurance or underwriting experience
Valid driver's license or alternative means of transportation
Travel 10-25% of time
