The Vice President will be the utility services capital projects practice strategy and delivery lead, portfolio manager, and client relationship manager for gas and electric clients across Canada and will be responsible for supporting new business development and providing technical and operational leadership to enable best-in-class service delivery for multiple utility clients. The VP will lead project delivery staff while also managing the overall professional relationship with customers. The ideal candidate will be an articulate, highly regarded industry veteran with a deep technical background that enables them to be a key technical resource for our clients and a strong leader in managing an experienced technical workforce.

To lead Comtech's Utility Services national practice including key account leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as senior-most client relationship manager, engaging with client executives, project sponsors, and delivery partners
  • Provides strategic direction for the Utilities team in areas such as business development, client and stakeholder relations, strategy and advisory services, project and program management, and construction management
  • Analyzes industry trends and market dynamics to identify emerging opportunities and threats
  • Stays informed about competitor activities and market shifts and makes certain Comtech is positioned well for these market shifts
  • Builds and maintains in-depth industry knowledge and relationships
  • Negotiates contracts, agreements, and partnerships to ensure favourable terms and conditions for the Company
  • Participates in the development of marketing strategies for the expansion of Comtech's client base, and leads the process of enhancing Comtech's competitive position in the T&D and Utilities sector
  • Develops and delivers senior-level presentation materials, marketing initiatives, and other Comtech media
  • Reviews and provides input to proposals and bids
  • Ensures the strategic positioning of Comtech in the industry through presentations, association, and event participation
  • Oversees service delivery for a portfolio of projects across the country, inclusive of program advisory and strategy, and delivery
  • P&L responsibility for the practice, forecasts, and monitors sales, revenues, and budgets to ensure program and project costs are managed, including the development of recovery plans to stay within budget limits
  • Hires, coaches, and leads team members, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities for Comtech Leaders

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate has 10+ years of senior-level leadership experience with an electric or gas utility, with a demonstrated, established network of contacts and key relationships within the regional utilities and utility leadership representatives
  • 10+ years of progressive project leadership experience within the gas or electric utility sector is preferred. Stronger candidates will have 15-20 years of progressive utility leadership experience
  • Candidates with executive leadership experience in utility third-party service providers will also be considered
  • Experienced in establishing and managing relationships with senior utilities stakeholders
  • Possess strong sales and client relationship development experience
  • Must be able to coordinate work scope with multiple internal & external work groups or contractors
  • Extensive knowledge of Gas Transmission and Distribution and Electric Substation, Transmission, and Distribution Project Management and Construction Management concepts and principles
  • Experience administering and managing a portfolio of large dollar projects as well as hiring and assembling the management resources to perform the work
  • Successful applicants will also be able to demonstrate business acumen and communicate effectively across multiple levels, both internally and externally
  • Deep knowledge of OHS and utility safety policies and practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Possesses strong analytical ability

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Master's degree in Engineering or an MBA is a strong asset

Licenses OR Certifications:

  • Holding a P.Eng. qualification is an asset
  • PMP certification is an asset
