Our client in the fine foods and grocery industry is looking for a permanent, full-time, Meat Cutter to join their team located in downtown Halifax, NS. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills, great food safety practices, and a high attention to detail that will align well with the company's standards.

Job Title: Meat Cutter
Location: Halifax, NS
Pay Range: $15.70/hour during probation, $17.50/hour after 3 months

What's the Job?

  • Product Knowledge: Be thoroughly familiar with all meat and seafood products, including differences in price, taste, preparation, and use.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the highest quality of products through proper receiving processes, monitoring shelf-life, trimming, maintaining temperature records, and rotating stock.
  • Packaging and Labeling: Follow packaging and labeling standards and guidelines.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in controlling inventory levels, minimizing over/under stocks, maximizing sales, and ensuring product quality.
  • Customer Service: Greet customers, provide prompt and courteous service, and handle complaints efficiently.
  • Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain cleanliness and organization in the department, sanitize tools and equipment, and follow waste disposal procedures.
  • Team Collaboration: Contribute to high-quality communication within the Meat and Seafood team and ensure accuracy and completeness of duties.
  • Display Management: Build and maintain product displays for maximum sales and profits, including tie-in merchandise and proper signage.
  • Shrinkage Control: Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses, and participate in monthly inventory counts.
  • Cross-Department Cooperation: Gain an understanding of other departments to ensure superior customer service, cross-merchandising, and overall store image.

  • A keen attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in all tasks.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  • Proven customer service experience is required, demonstrating the ability to handle challenging situations with ease.
  • Confidence in decision-making and problem-solving is crucial.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Adaptability is key, as you need to adjust to changing environments and tasks seamlessly.
  • Familiarity with meat and seafood varieties, including storage and preparation methods, is necessary for maintaining product quality.
  • Able to work a varied schedule of 8 hour shifts that correspond with business hours, 8 AM to 8 PM, 7 days a week.
