Nature of the work
The position of social worker encompasses, in particular, responsibility for carrying out prevention, promotion and screening activities, evaluating the social functioning of students and groups of students experiencing or likely to experience emotional, social, school or family problems as well as determining and implementing a social intervention plan in order to support and restore social functioning, foster the student's optimal development in interaction with his or her environment and help him or her pursue his or her educational path.
Description of tasks
- Contributes to the screening and identification of students experiencing social, family, personal, or academic difficulties with a focus on prevention and intervention.
- Evaluates the social functioning of students, particularly those with a mental or neuropsychological disorder confirmed by:
- A diagnosis or an assessment conducted by a professional resource
- The study and synthesis of information gathered from the student's file
- Direct observation
- Interviews, consultations, and questionnaires
- Oversees the implementation of the social intervention plan as part of the process of determining an intervention plan to meet the student's needs.
- Participates with the multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and revision of the student's intervention plan, considering their personal, family, academic, and social context to help them overcome difficulties and maintain and develop their academic motivation.
- Works with other team members to coordinate interventions and assess the achievement of objectives.
- Conducts individual support meetings with students and group sessions.
- Ensures follow-up support for parents.
- Refers students or their parents to appropriate resources based on the situation and needs.
- Collaborates with representatives of partner organizations.
- Advises and supports teachers and other school staff to better meet the student's needs and provide academic support.
- Participates in the development, promotion, and facilitation of screening, awareness, and prevention programs on issues affecting young people.
- Advises school administration, drafts expert reports, evaluations, assessments, and progress reports, and provides recommendations to support decision-making.
- May be called upon to intervene in crisis or emergency situations and propose solutions.
- Prepares and updates student records following professional standards and school board regulations.
- Writes progress notes and evaluation reports at different stages of the intervention process.

Required qualifications
- Be a member of the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec.
- Bilingual (French and English)
