About the Opportunity
The BCTF currently has an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced IT Manager to join us on a full-time basis. This is an in-person position based out of 550 West 6th Avenue, in Vancouver, B.C.
Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the IT Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing the operation of IT services and support across the Federation. In this role, you will manage IT projects, allocate resources, supervise IT staff, and serve as a key point of communication with the Executive Committee, Excluded Management Team, Managers, Supervisors, and end-users.
Some of your key responsibilities in this pivotal role will include:
Collaborating with the Treasurer to forecast Federation needs and develop optimized plans and budgets
Keeping informed on emerging technologies and reporting potential benefits to the Treasurer
Researching, designing, and implementing technology to enhance digital communications, information access, and user experience
Assessing digital delivery systems and recommending hardware/software upgrades to improve processes
Conducting capacity planning for network bandwidth, storage, and applications
Ensuring operational viability of the LAN during all business hours
Identifying resources and building partnerships with IT suppliers, vendors, and consultants
Managing hardware/software evaluations and vendor contracts
Developing business cases for technology acquisitions
Assisting in preparing RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs
Managing relationships with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchases and overseeing warranties/service agreements
Coordinating infrastructure to support Federation growth and flexibility
Leading IT operations across infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, and performance
Establishing and enforcing standards for technical solutions and ensuring application consistency
Providing support for hardware and software issues, and documenting solutions
Leading IT projects, ensuring requirements, deliverables, and milestone planning are clear
Overseeing system installations, upgrades, maintenance, and recovery to minimize disruptions
Reviewing designs, code, and test plans as needed
Managing timelines and monitoring software release progress
Acting as a liaison between users, operations, and technical personnel
Planning end-user training as required
Prioritizing IT staff workload and managing the IT budget for technology, services, and personnel
Representing IT during budget reviews.

More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you possess 10+ years of work experience in IT management, which includes at least 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a unionized environment, along with a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or software engineering.
You bring considerable technical knowledge and business acumen in the following areas:
Managing complex IT projects
Designing, implementing, and maintaining networks, operating systems, server architecture, VPNs, firewalls, encryption, and network security technologies
Understanding web design and application principles
Knowledge of programming concepts, software development cycles, and related tools and platforms
Proficiency with information databases
Experience managing IT department budgets.
