Position Description:

Saint John Uptown Health Centre (SJUHC) is seeking a Family Medicine Physician to join a collaborative care practice staffed by Nurse Practitioners, nurses, social worker, pharmacist, and other allied health professionals who work in a team to ensure patients receive primary care from the most appropriate provider.

SJUHC offers same-day self-referral appointments with a physician or nurse practitioner increasing access to primary care in the Saint John area.

By offering people the option to self-refer we are helping alleviate some of the pressures in our emergency departments and support those who currently do not have a primary health care provider. These self-referred appointments are for non-urgent episodic care issues. The physician's principal role at this health center would be to service the needs of this co-hort.

Job Duties:

Perform clinical duties including but not restricted to seeing and assessing both scheduled and unscheduled patients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment, consults, referral to other healthcare professionals as required and appropriate follow-up to patients across the lifespan.

In-patient care which may include hospitalist care.

Provide family-centered primary care by taking into account risk factors (environmental, social, psychological and medical) in a manner which can be understood by the patient, and when applicable, his/her family.

Participate in the use of departmental and corporate evidence-based rules of practice to ensure that expected standards of care are achieved.

Participate in medical practice that is compatible with the Health Authority's mission, values and strategic directions.

Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counseling and health promotion programs, disease and injury prevention and chronic disease management programs and services for individuals, families and the community.

Participate in after hours on-call coverage in coordination with other medical staff ensuring provisions are made for continual coverage of patient caseload during times when you are absent from your practice.

Other professional medical work falling within the scope of practice that may arise by circumstance may be assigned by the Head of the Department of Family Medicine, Local Chief of Staff, Medical Director - Saint John and/or Vice President of Medical Affairs in conversation with the Physician.

Remuneration:

Fee for Service

Standard remuneration is Fee-for-Service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. On call remuneration is provided. No source deductions can be provided.

Qualifications:

Must hold a valid license to practice medicine in the Province of New Brunswick

Must be a member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick, and the New Brunswick Medical Society

Must have current malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) appropriate to the category of practice.

Certified in BCLS preferred.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.

Good attendance and work record.

Physically able to perform assign duties.

Incentives:

$50,000.00 accompanied by a 2 year return of service for eligible physicians approved by the Department of health.

Relocation reimbursement of up to $8,000 for eligible physicians approved by the Regional Health Authority.

Other Requirements:

Attend appropriate CPD events as required to maintain membership in the CFPC or equivalent to those requirements.

Participate in physician meetings and appropriate team meetings

Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Family Medicine

Required to provide a three (3) month written notice of departure to the administrators of Horizon Health Network should the physician decide to leave the region.

Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community Health Centre Regulation, the Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations. Documents can be found under

About the Facility:

Horizon's Saint John Uptown Health Centre provides primary health care services through a collaborative group of health professionals, including Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses.

This brand-new health centre is led by a team of Nurse Practitioners who are establishing patient lists exclusively through the Patient Connect NB registry.
