Position: Clinical Psychologist (L20B) Operational Stress Injury Satellite Site

FTE: Permanent, Full-Time

Department: Health PEI, Mental Health & Addictions

Location: Stratford, Prince Edward Island

Salary: $52.04 - $64.13 Per Hour

Start Date/Term Length: Commencing Immediatley

About The Position:

The primary responsibility of the Psychologist at the Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Satellite site is to provide comprehensive assessments and evidence-informed psychotherapy to clients referred from Veterans Affairs Canada, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Department of National Defense residing on Prince Edward Island. The assessments are for diagnostic and treatment purposes and to assist Veterans Affairs Canada in determining eligibility for disability benefits. The Psychologist is also responsible for the collaboration of care within the multi-disciplinary clinic team which includes consultation, treatment updates, referrals to external agencies or community partners, and education. Education includes providing workshops, consultation, and specialized training for community partners. The position reports to the Clinic Manager of the OSI Satellite site in Mental Health & Addictions.

Duties will include:

- Provide evidence-informed, best practices psychotherapy to clients who are Veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces or RCMP;

and/or their families presenting with occupational stress injuries .

- Monitor treatment outcomes to inform client progress and treatment decisions;

- Application of psychometric tests to help clarify treatment goals or address progress-related issues;

- Maintain all relevant documentation required including maintenance of current client care notes and any reports required pertaining to testing and/or summary reports for community partners involved in the clients' care.

- Utilize structured and semi-structured interviews, various psychometric tests, and collateral data to generate a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnoses and inform treatment recommendations;

- Shares the testing results with the client, referral source, OSI clinic interdisciplinary team, and appropriate members of the client's care team (e.g. family physician);

- Completes reassessments of clients' mental health condition for Veterans Affairs disability benefits;

Minimum Qualifications:

- Applicants must have a Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, with training and supervised practice in the area of occupational stress injury treatment;

- Must be eligible for registration with the PEI Psychologists Registration Board, attaining registration in a timely fashion will be required as a condition of employment; where currently registered, must be a member in good standing;

- Experience providing psychological services within a multidisciplinary clinic setting;

- Strong demonstrable skills as a diagnostician, recognizing both co-morbid and pre-existing conditions;

- Considerable experience in assessment and diagnostics as well as treatment of mental health illnesses;

- Extensive familiarity with DSM 5 and psychiatric disorders is required;

- Demonstrated substantive knowledge of, and practice in, conceptualization, and assessment, of best practice intervention in the area of operational stress injury treatments;

- Demonstrated proficiency in core clinical competencies of mental health treatment, which include psychological testing, client-clinician relationship formation, professional autonomy and accountability, clinical assessment and formulation skills, ethical decision-making, and therapeutic interventions with individuals, groups, families, and case management;

- Must be able to function with a high degree of autonomy; yet work collaboratively with psychiatry;

- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Psychologists Act, the Health Information Act, DSM 5, FOIPP, the Consent to Treatment Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other legislative frameworks as needed.

Other Qualifications:

- Comfort and proficiency in CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing (MI);

- Demonstrated effective professional skills including time management, interpersonal skills, oral and written skills, effective team building skills, collaborative and consultative practice skills;

- Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation is considered an asset;

- Competent computer skills, including common word processing, database, and electronic communication software required, electronic record keeping;

- Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license;
