Your opportunity: The Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) is a consortium of the University of Toronto and 14 affiliated academic hospitals that focuses on collaborative initiatives aimed at promoting and advancing a shared academic mission of top quality education, innovative research and delivery of high quality patient care. As Senior Data & Business Intelligence Analyst on the TAHSN team, you will have an opportunity to develop and implement novel data collection, management, analysis and reporting strategies for the network. Through effective collaboration with senior leaders, educators, researchers, and fellow data/business intelligence experts across partner organizations, your contributions will lead to informed decision-making processes by leading the design and development of a robust, reliable, and successful data platform and identifying trends and valuable insights. This newly created role will allow you to collaborate with data and IT leads with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the University of Toronto in order to align strategies, tools, and approaches to data governance and management.
Your proven record of working with big data and analytics from proof-of-concept to final implementation will enable you to collaborate with colleagues, hospital partners, and health system stakeholders in understanding network wide priorities and developing key metrics that will help advance TAHSN's collective strategy.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Working with stakeholders within the University and its partners to develop and implement a data management and reporting strategy for TAHSN
- Facilitating meetings to determine client needs and providing consultative advice on data requirements
- Determining optimal data collection methods and analyzing and writing program scripts to extract data
- Developing information management methods to optimize use of data
- Running data queries and identifying and resolving data discrepancies and anomalies
- Building dashboards from scratch in support of key performance indicators
- Producing complex statistical reports and analyzing complex data to inform decision making
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five years' experience in data analytics and business intelligence supporting data-driven decision making
- Demonstrated experience working with large and complex data sets, including experience with data collection, data extraction and data analysis and its applicable tools
- Experience administering SQL databases (preferably PostgreSQL or SQL Server)
- Demonstrated experience designing and deploying data visualizations and dashboards of key performance indicators
- Experience managing data integrity and quality
- Experience preparing and interpreting statistical and graphic reports
- Experience conducting needs assessments to identify and evaluate systems requirements and translate project plans
- An understanding of PHIPA and FIPPA and knowledge of information security principles and practices
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly MS Excel), survey tools (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey), business intelligence tools (Tableau, POWER BI, Data Cookbook) and statistical packages (SPSS)
- A desire to seek out, learn and embrace new and emerging technology
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to tailor style based on a diverse audience including executive and technical audiences
- Strong database management, spreadsheet and presentation design skills
- Strong knowledge of data visualization best practices, including data mapping, colour theory, and information design
- An inquiry-based approach to data analysis to address inequitable norms and patterns
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy while working with large datasets
- Ability to work in a team environment and exercise tact, discretion, flexibility and sound judgment
