The Site Supervisor, reporting to the Construction Manager, is responsible for managing and supervising daily on-site construction activities to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget. This role includes leading the on-site crew, coordinating with the Project Manager, subcontractors, and clients to address project requirements, and ensuring effective communication at all levels. The Site Supervisor is also tasked with upholding strict safety and quality standards, accurately submitting crew timesheets in a timely manner, and creating a positive, collaborative work environment to drive project success.

Requirements

  • Oversee construction activities for utility substation and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, budgets, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Complete and submit daily reports and work plans to maintain accurate project tracking.
  • Ensure crew timesheets are completed and submitted promptly.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and the client's site representative, ensuring clear communication and collaboration for both substation and BESS projects.
  • Lead by example in implementing the company's safety policies and procedures, document and report all injuries, and coordinate with the on-site Safety Representative to complete necessary injury/accident reports.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and maintain construction timelines for utility substation and BESS projects by optimizing on-site resources, including manpower, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist the Project Manager in managing subcontractors, developing subcontract agreements, and tracking production to maintain project schedules and budget alignment for substation and BESS components.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to create project execution plans, facilitate kick-off meetings, conduct contract and scope reviews, and coordinate with the Contracts team to establish comprehensive project programs for utility substation and BESS construction.
  • Uphold Valard's Substation and BESS quality management program by working with the on-site Quality Representative to ensure deliverables meet design and contract specifications.
  • Mentor, train, and motivate the job-site crew to foster a culture focused on safety, quality, and production while ensuring adherence to the company's policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to utilize Valard's Change Management System, addressing RFIs and COs in partnership with the client to ensure resolution for substation and BESS projects.
  • Support internal and external audits and inspections as required for both substation and BESS construction.
  • Manage equipment reviews and scheduling to meet project needs efficiently, ensuring seamless integration of substation and BESS components.

Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of experience in the construction industry, with exposure to utility substation and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
  • Journeyperson PSE/Electrician/Lineman designation required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Proven ability to assist in managing workgroups of 10+ people effectively.
  • Foundational understanding of civil construction and various foundation types.
  • Basic experience with the installation of structural support steel, high-voltage bus work, and apparatus in substations and BESS projects.
  • Familiarity with major BESS vendors, such as Tesla and Fluence, with a developing understanding of their systems and integration processes.
  • General knowledge of construction disciplines, safety regulations, project scheduling, cost management, and quality control standards specific to high-voltage systems and energy storage solutions.
  • Exposure to commissioning support services, including assisting with testing, troubleshooting, and energization processes for substations and BESS installations.
  • Awareness of union requirements, labor agreements, and their application in construction projects as applicable.
  • Position involves both field and office work, with flexibility to accommodate multiple shifts based on project schedules and contractual obligations.

Skills:

  • Developing commercial awareness and the ability to support alignment of construction activities with business objectives, including cost-effective execution of civil, electrical, and structural components.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders and concise reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn additional project management and reporting tools.
  • Emerging leadership abilities to assist in guiding and mentoring Supervisors and Foremen on substation, BESS, and related civil and electrical scopes of work.
  • Attention to detail to support safety, quality, and compliance in civil works, high-voltage installations, and vendor-specific equipment integration.
  • Foundational knowledge in the construction, maintenance, and repair of substations, structural steel, bus work, high-voltage apparatus, and BESS installations.
  • Willingness to collaborate with commissioning teams and provide hands-on support during testing and energization phases of projects.

Education

  • College Diploma
  • Journeyman PSE/Electrician/Lineman Designation required.
  • 5-7 Years experience
  • An acceptable combination of education and experience to fulfill the role
