Reporting to the Vice President, Accounting & Finance, with regular interaction with the Chief Financial Officer, the Tax Manager will be responsible for the Company's global direct and indirect tax compliance along with providing strategic tax guidance for the business operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization's tax global planning, compliance, and reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
- Develop and implement a global tax strategy aligned with the company's business objectives.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on tax-efficient business structuring.
- Preparation and review of Canadian and International corporate tax returns and annual financial statement tax notes disclosure, in collaboration with external tax professionals.
- Supervise and review monthly, quarterly or annual tax remittances relatives to GST, HST, PST, USA sales and use tax, VAT, EC Sales, Intrastat etc.
- Assistance with international tax matters such as withholding taxes, information reporting returns/issues and transfer pricing.
- Assistance with global payroll taxes requirements.
- Monthly GL reconciliation of all tax accounts/GLs.
- Perform tax research on specific tax issues or transactions as required and draft memos outlining analysis, conclusion, and recommendations.
- Coordinate the response to income tax audits and sales tax audits with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Internal Revenue Services (IRS) and other tax authorities as required.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure adherence to finance processes and controls, emphasizing continuous process improvements and gaining efficiencies through automation.
- Manage relationships with external advisors and tax authorities.
- Remain up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in tax law.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance. CPA, MBA or relevant
certification preferred. Completion of the CICA In-Depth tax course would be an asset.
Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a public mid-
sized manufacturing/technology environment.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Tax legislation and reporting.
- Experience with direct and indirect tax compliance, preferably in a similar international operations environment.
- Exposure to USA tax legislation and using Avalara would be an asset.
- Experience in dealing with global tax audits.
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic, entrepreneurial and fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work independently with excellent organization skills in assuming responsibility for managing multiple priorities.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including experience in MS Excel and MS Word applications.
