Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada's oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Section Head, Leadership to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for 'kids of all ages' with sight loss, and their families!
Your Impact at CNIB- Develop curricula and execute programming for all leadership camps (Counsellor-in-Training, Leadership, Young Adults, etc.). Duties include the scheduling of sessions, lesson planning and facilitation of leadership programs and activities.
- Assist the Supervisor, Camp Programs with the screening of prospective CIT program participants by reviewing application documents and conducting interviews.
- Collaborate with leadership counsellors to produce creative, engaging and outcome-based leadership program sessions.
- Oversee the delivery of the CIT program providing the program participants with feedback/evaluations, in-service learning opportunities, and mentorship contributing to the overall development of leadership skills of the participants.
- Collaborate with the arts (music, visual arts) staff in the curating, planning and execution of all arts-based programming and activities. Examples of possible programming include, talent shows, art exhibits, campfires, etc.
- Work with and support the Manager of Community Engagement to schedule and organize program volunteers that are supporting the camp for the session.
- Facilitate programs and programs alongside other team members within your specialty area (and other areas if qualified and trained).
- Take on rotational responsibilities as the on-call, Manager on Duty (MOD). The MOD is the acting lead in emergency situations and will be responsible to responding to calls on the MOD phone during coverage.
- During the spring season (April-June): Responsibilities will include setting up program areas and ensuring that all required resources are available. Helping with property maintenance tasks around camp to ensure that camp is ready to welcome guests.
Requirements
Who you are:Education and Certifications- Enrolled in a Recreation and Leisure, Education, Youth Worker or equivalent program an asset.
- Current (within 6 months of start date) Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR "C".
- Experience working in camp or other recreation programs required.
- Experience as a supervisor or team leader an asset.
- Experience working with volunteers an asset.
- Background in arts (visual, performing, music) an asset.
- Event planning experience an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy and communication.
- Customer service experience an asset.
- Ability to resolve conflict and take a lead role in emergency situations.
- Must have strong organizational, planning and leadership skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a changing and busy environment and work outside for extended periods of time.
- Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season (May-August) and be willing to share accommodations with other staff members.
- Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
- Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
- Outdoor work required in this position. Working outdoors may include exposure to weather, sun and heat exposure. May require moderate levels of physical exertion.
- Respects the importance of confidential information while effectively functioning as a team member or working independently.
- This position may require the ability to work occasional overtime/flex time.
- Ability to work flexible hours in a dynamic and busy environment, with frequent interruptions.
- Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff member.
