Valard is seeking Powerline Technician Foreman (for the Underground Toronto Hydro crew).

Requirements

CONSTRUCTION

  1. Install, maintain and repair underground power lines and cables, conductors, switches, transformers, street lighting, energized low voltage Network Cables and other associated equipment.
  2. Install Terminations and Potheads. Wipe lead cables.
  3. Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks.
  4. Installs, maintains and repairs Network Transformers, Protectors and associated Automation equipment.
  5. Have knowledge and expertise in the areas of construction, maintenance, and repair of both distribution and transmission power systems, coupled with the ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  6. Opens and closes switches and installs grounding devices to lines and equipment.
  7. Instruct, mentor and train junior personnel and Apprentices in duties, safe work practices, care and use of tools and equipment in a positive respectful manner.

SAFETY

  1. Knowledge of trade safety practices and procedures
  2. Recognize, assess, and be able to deal with potentially hazardous situations in the work environment.
  3. Have general knowledge in live line work, and the willingness to pursue further training as required to become proficient in this area.
  4. Ability to read and understand the scope of construction prints provided.
  5. Recognize and report any incidents, potential hazards, injuries, or concerns to your supervisor immediately.
  6. The ability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc. in adverse weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Valid Journeyman certificate for Powerline Technician, Provincial or Red Seal.
  2. Class AZ driver's license.
  3. 5 years' experience
  4. Must have experience working near existing underground power lines and have strong knowledge of cable pulling/removing activities.
