The Opportunity:
Reporting to VP Reinsurance, this role will be responsible for ensuring reinsurance operations are reported in an accurate and timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain oversight and review work produced by outsourced teams, such as EXL.
- Lead the quarterly reporting for Schedule F reporting and other Reinsurance reporting.
- Oversee work allocated to junior staff, and provide assistance with training and managing workload.
- Lead regularly scheduled meetings with key brokers/reinsurers to resolve open items/escalate as needed.
- Ensure all treaties, quota share and XOL treaties are appropriately settled with the markets and internal reinsurance teams on a timely basis.
- Analyze and validate reinsurance files and corresponding premium and claims payments.
- Process and provide accurate and timely information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee the reporting of reinsurance accounts, including liaising with underwriters and external parties to ensure accounts are reported and settled on time.
- Compute and effectively communicate reinsurance recoveries related to large losses (per Canadian reinsurance programs).
- Liaise with reinsurance intermediaries and Global Reinsurance on other administrative matters as required.
- Assist with sending out broker statements monthly, reconcile broker statements with our records, and follow up on outstanding items with brokers.
- Actively seek enhancements and make recommendations for new processes to improve efficiencies or rectify inaccuracies or information gaps.
- Organize and lead on reinsurance workflows including organizing and leading meetings on any exceptions.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as requested.
Skills & Qualifications:
- At least 2-3 years of financial industry experience – ideally in insurance in the P&C area with exposure to reinsurance concepts.
- Knowledge of SOX key controls and reinsurance processes.
- Ability to work with large volumes of data to derive business solutions.
- High proficiency in the use of MS Excel, MS Access, SAP, and Essbase.
- Broad knowledge of reinsurance concepts, products and processes an asset.
- Experience working with automated accounting and reporting systems.
- Ability to identify and solve problems based on analysis (start to finish concept).
- Proven superior communication, presentation and customer service skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong business and interpersonal communication skills (written and oral).
- Outstanding inter-personal and team leadership skills with emphasis on employee motivation.
- Excellent analytical, problems solving and technical accounting skills.
