Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the Infrastructure Specialist is a team member within the department responsible for providing technical support of the existing infrastructure and developing architecture for new applications and infrastructure at Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL). The Infrastructure Specialist will participate in developing both short and long-range plans for systems, work processes, and technologies, while also coordinating technology implementations and collaborating with external vendors and third parties. In addition, this position will participate in the development and/or improvement of effective and efficient administration and business processes.

Overseeing networks, servers, cloud systems and various IT hardware and software to ensure stability, performance and security.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

1. Provides leadership for the server and network infrastructure by supporting, maintaining, and implementing.

  • Research, design, and implement new server, network and related infrastructure for REAL, which could include working with outsourcing partners.
  • Developing or improving strategies on the planning and implementation of a technology plan to improve REAL's overall technology infrastructure.
  • Provide advanced technical support for server, storage, and network infrastructure including diagnosis, repair, setup and configuration.
  • Develop, test, and update the disaster recovery plan.
  • Monitor the existing infrastructure and taking steps to optimize the infrastructure.
  • Manage the infrastructure queue for troubleshooting technical issues, collaborating with the IT team and third-party contractors to resolve issues.
  • Prioritize problem resolution and escalate issues when required.
  • Develop and implement non-standard solutions to mitigate outages and prevent them where possible.
  • Preparing and updating infrastructure documentation when required.

2. Support and implement the Security Administration

  • Implement and enforce compliance with security policies and procedures to secure servers and network infrastructure.
  • Manage security access process and protocols ensuring secure access to application data, email and cloud-based applications.
  • Conduct periodic access audits to ensure only those who need have access.
  • Stay abreast of technology advances in infrastructure contributing to decision to enhance security, performance, and stability.

3. Supports events at the REAL campus by:

  • Consulting with REAL internal customers, external partners and third parties to develop and deploy solutions to meet their needs.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of technological advancements as they pertain to REAL's infrastructure.
  • Providing IT customer service by delivering technical support and troubleshooting assistance to users and/or third-party partners, ensuring effective resolution of issues related to software, hardware, and systems, while maintaining a high standard of communication and user satisfaction.

4. Develop, update, and enforce policy, procedures and processes for the implementation and deployment of technology.

5. Vendor and stakeholder management from a technical perspective.

6. Other duties as required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regular office environment
  • Hours may vary based on operational requirements
  • Lifting of heavy objects > 25 lbs.
  • Flexible work hours with on-call availability as needed for events

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Possesses a bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or other related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in managing and maintaining technology infrastructure in a complex environment. Combination of credentials and experience will be considered.
  • Preference given to candidates who hold current certification such as ITIL. Additional certifications like Cisco and Microsoft Azure certification are considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical knowledge that enables the incumbent to participate effectively in the troubleshooting of problems involving hardware and software, including performance issues
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and diagnosing server and network problems.
  • Technical knowledge to tune, secure, and optimize either Windows or Unix based servers.
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory or Azure and server software technologies
  • Technical knowledge of security controls as they relate to hardening of servers and networks as well as the ability to recognize and mitigate related risk.
  • Technical knowledge of server and network communication principles, hardware, software, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement processes in accordance with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework, including Incident Management, Change Management, Configuration Management, Release Management and Problem Management practices.
  • Knowledge of Project Management practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills (oral, written and presentation skills) and an ability to explain technical issues using appropriate terminology based on the audience.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate collaboration between stakeholders, IT professionals and business units to design solutions that address their needs.
  • Proficiency in asking a series of probing questions to get at the root of a situation or problem, below the surface of issues presented.
  • Ability to use knowledge of IT theory or of past trends or situations to look at new problems
