About the Position

As CCMF's Fundraising Associate (FC), you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of fundraising activities. About 50% of your activity would be focused on CCMF Alberta with additional responsibilities in Western Canada and Nationally. You will have primary responsibility for securing sufficient funds to realize CCMF's goals and objectives. The position will work closely with the Executive Director of CCMF Alberta and Local Advisory Boards in Western Canada, The National Fund Development Manager and the CEO of CCMF. The successful candidate is preferably based in Alberta.

Tasks and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for securing funds to support key objectives and programs for CCMF.

  • Responsible for contributing to the growth of the organization's fundraising mix, including private contributions from individual donors, membership dues, government and foundations grants and corporate sponsorships.
  • Participate in the Fundraising and Advancement Committee and manage a team of volunteers focused on raising funds for CCMF.
  • Working closely with National staff and the Branch Directors as assigned in developing key relationships in funding agencies and government.
  • Responsible for donor relations and stewardship, including donor circles, donor reports, communications and appreciation events. Work closely with the communications team to develop communications and schedules and assist in creating a National communications strategy.
  • Lead teams of volunteers and staff to create events that support the visibility of CCMF in the community and our fundraising objectives.
  • Assist in arranging and delivering speaking opportunities to key groups, service clubs, foundations, individuals and organizations to advance the public knowledge of men's issues and support our advocacy and fund development activity.
  • Maintain a comprehensive schedule of grant opportunities, deadlines, follow-up activities and reporting requirements for grants received in the assigned branches.
  • Prepare detailed grant applications in collaboration with the Branch Directors and other key program staff.
  • Lead the development of a Corporate Sponsorship program.
  • Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization's values, mission, vision and plans, and in compliance with the organization's Statement of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Assist in reviewing performance measures, monitoring results and assist the Manager of Fund Development, the chief executive officer, development committee and boards evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's fund development program.
  • Support the creation of solicitation strategies, and compiling information to create individual solicitation plans for major gift donors and prospects.
  • Stay abreast of sector trends and bring new ideas and opportunities forward to support goal of building long-term donor relationships

Grant Writing

  1. Prepare and submit grant applications, letters of intent and solicitation letters for government, foundations and corporate grants.
  2. Manage the fulfillment of grant reporting obligations. Support and develop fulfillment systems.
  3. Maintain and build relationships with grantors and sponsors.
  4. Manage and grow a comprehensive database of grant and sponsorship opportunities.
  5. Research grant and sponsorship opportunities that meet the unique needs of the organization.
  6. Write compelling and well-articulated proposals, letters of interest and applications; submit and manage grants.

Fundraising Responsibilities

In addition to Grants the major responsibilities will include donor stewardship and developing a corporate giving program and stewardship.

  1. Coordinate with all CCMF branches to ensure full branch participation in fundraising activities.
  2. Responsibility to recruit, train and manage volunteers involved in the two areas of grant writing and special events.
  3. Ensure that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization's Values, Vision, Mission, Strategic and Tactical Plans, and in compliance with the organization's Statement of Ethics and the Donor Bill of Rights.
  4. Empowers the Board of Directors, Executive Director, staff and volunteers with tools and training to fully engage the entire team in fundraising.
  5. Develop fundraising communication materials for various audiences.
  6. Develop communication messages and materials in support of Annual Giving and donor stewardship initiatives, including strategizing concepts, identifying key themes, target audiences and delivery channels, culminating in well-managed production.
  7. Help establish performance measures, monitors results and helps evaluate the effectiveness of the organization's fund development program.
  8. Develop data management system to track all sources of financial support to CCMF

Fundraising Events

  1. Assist in organizing or supporting special events. Generally our events will be organized to increase awareness of CCMF and its programs but will incorporate fundraising where appropriate.
  2. Develop sponsorships for special events, fulfill compliance requirements with sponsors and manage sponsors relationships.
  3. Fulfill our agency's commitment to foundations hosting third party fundraising events on our behalf.
  4. Develop special event templates that our agency's branches can host locally. Train and supervise local event organizers.
  5. Recruit volunteers to assist in organizing special events.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a degree in one of the following areas or a related program: non-profit management, business, fundraising management, finance or financial planning. Other relevant educational backgrounds include social services, marketing, communications, human resources, public administration, public policy and governance.

The ideal candidate will have experience with fundraising for nonprofits or charities, including raising contributions from private donors, successfully applying for government and/or foundation grants, hosting fundraising events and/or setting up corporate sponsorship programs.

The ideal candidate will have the following additional experience and attributes:

  • Minimum 2 years working in a charitable sector and/or fundraising environment and minimum 2 years in a role with direct fundraising (donor-facing) responsibilities, ideally in a major gifts context.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the CCMF mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to make strong and compelling presentations.
  • Ability to work well both in individual and group settings.
  • Strong time management skills – able to proactively manage competing priorities, take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities with competing and changing priorities.
  • Ability to manage a high level of detail when required.
  • Well developed computer skills with experience with MS Office Suite, Google Suite and donor software will be assets.
  • A cooperative team player able to work independently and make sound decisions and judgments.
  • Capacity to provide effective leadership and motivation to volunteers and team members.
  • Admirable interpersonal and relationship management skills – open, approachable, tactful and politically sensitive.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings/weekends as required for presentations, events/volunteer committee meetings or internal meetings.
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid drivers' license, ability to travel within Alberta is preferred, travel within either Calgary or Edmonton is required.
  • Exceptional diplomacy, discretion, and tact, with the ability to respond to various levels of expectations from a variety of stakeholders.
  • Able to lift/move 20+ lbs (events items to locations from office or sponsors' location).
