We are looking for a Market Trends Research Specialist, based in our Toronto office, who will support our Business Development (BD) team in growing our market standing in Canada and the United States.

You will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources to deliver actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. Your contribution will play a key role in shaping our growth initiatives, refining business strategies, and improving the experience we provide for our clients.

Requirements

What will you do?

Market Trends Research (50% of the role)

Major Projects

  • Conduct market research on project pipelines and gather intelligence from both public and private sources.
  • Conduct opportunity-specific research including scope, schedule, timing, players, decision makers.
  • Support positioning through research on potential partnerships, acquisitions, competitor analysis, etc.
  • Develop detailed profiles for Major Projects, including decision-makers, business objectives, spending patterns, and market presence.
  • Analyze public funding sources (federal, provincial, municipal, and post-secondary master plans) relevant to Major Projects.
  • Monitor industry trends, legislative changes, economic indicators, and government budgets to assess market impacts.

Portfolio Clients

  • Conduct research to build detailed profiles of Portfolio Clients, focusing on key decision-makers, business drivers, market presence, spending patterns, and company strategies.
  • Review client history, active projects, and internal data to support Portfolio Client Teams.
  • Conduct market surveys of collaborators within clients' ecosystems and perform deeper analysis to enhance positioning in portfolio networks.
  • Monitor competitors working with Portfolio Clients to inform strategic "how-to-win" plans.

Client-centric Positioning and Decision-making

  • Design and execute annual client surveys to assess satisfaction and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data from various sources to understand and enhance the client journey across our services.
  • Prepare and present findings to inform leadership's strategic initiatives and thought leadership.

Growth Strategy (25% of Role)

  • Conduct market research and analyze industry trends to inform strategic decisions, identify growth opportunities, and assess new market entries, sector trends, emerging services, and economic forecasts.
  • Identify and evaluate mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliance opportunities to strengthen our market position.
  • Conduct market analysis of external forces and emerging competitors.
  • Perform deep dives on existing or potential alliances to understand partners' clients, competitors, and media presence.

Business Development (BD) Research (25% of Role)

  • Deliver desktop research and develop presentations for internal stakeholders on market trends, industry opportunities, and competitive insights.
  • Gather intelligence on preferred and high-potential clients and pipeline opportunities.
  • Develop, maintain, and update competitor profiles.
  • Develop client maps and gather intelligence to support BD Representatives in strengthening client relationships.
  • Analyze market and sector trends to identify opportunities and challenges, providing economic insights to BD Representatives.
  • Monitor council meeting websites for updates relevant to business opportunities.
  • Track trends such as data center growth and assess impacts of changing legislation on operations.
  • Research government spending patterns across sectors, regions, and industries.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Business or related degree.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience and/or background working in the Architecture, Engineering, or Construction (AEC), or real estate industry is an asset. All other professional service experience will still be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with people at all levels.
  • Experience with data aggregation platforms to consolidate and streamline information. Ability to leverage AI tools, research platforms, and other technologies to enhance market intelligence.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and deliverables on an ongoing basis.
