Job description
We are looking for an experienced individual to join the Java Group of Companies as a Survey Crew Chief.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all surveys (including GPS, total Station, and Leveling) in accordance with industry standards
- Ensure yourself and survey assistant adheres to all safety procedures and requirements.
- Work as directed by Project Manager
Knowledge, Competencies, Abilities:
Must have knowledge of all survey activities and related survey requirements. Must be capable of supervising a crew, keeping accurate, comprehensive, and neat notes and effectively communicate with the Project Manager and survey assistant. Construction survey and powerline construction survey is an asset.
Main Duties
- Manage and perform field survey work
- Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, to review and manage project timeline requirements, priorities, and survey methodology.
- Act as a company representative, liaising directly with client field representatives and landowners.
- Prepare and communicate field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for Project Managers and Drafting personnel.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants working with you.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, more efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
- Actively participate in and proactively support safety
- Some office technical survey work may be required in this position; and
- Other duties as assigned/required.

Requirements
Required Skills, Experience, & Behaviours
- Our successful candidate will be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or have an equivalent amount of related experience;
- Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic);
- Knowledge and experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating would be considered an asset;
- Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
- Well organized, adaptable, attentive to detail, hard-working and dedicated.
- Self-motivated and able to contribute to a fast-paced team environment
- Drone experience and capable of flying drones is an asset. LiDAR experience (mobile or aerial LiDAR) is an asset.
Certifications:
- Valid Drivers License
- First Aid
- H2S Alive
- ATV/ UTV Operator Training
Experience:
- surveying: 1 year (preferred)
