Who are we looking for?

As the Creative Director at tentree, you will be the visionary behind our creative design concepts, ensuring they align with our brand ethos and marketing strategies. You will lead a team of talented creatives, overseeing multiple design projects from concept to execution. Your passion for design, storytelling, and collaboration will drive brand engagement across all digital, traditional, and retail channels. This is a hands-on role for a creative leader who thrives on being involved in daily design work while mentoring a motivated team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide creative leadership to ensure design concepts are innovative, on-brand, and aligned with marketing goals
  • Oversee the development and execution of campaigns across various platforms, including digital, traditional, and retail channels
  • Ensure brand consistency by maintaining a cohesive visual identity across all creative assets
  • Collaborate with brand marketing to align creative output with business objectives and drive engagement
  • Mentor and inspire a team of in-house creatives, fostering a collaborative environment
  • Manage relationships with external freelancers to support project demands
  • Balance hands-on daily design work with leadership responsibilities
What will you be doing?

Creative Leadership

  • You will lead the creative approach from concept development to launch for all campaigns, ensuring they align with brand strategy and business goals.
  • You will oversee the design and execution of all creative assets, maintaining consistency and quality across all channels and mediums, while reviewing work, troubleshooting issues, and providing feedback to the creative teams.
  • You will take creative concepts and lead, coach, and guide a team to effectively apply them across various channels and mediums.
  • You will manage creative resources to ensure the best use of talent and executional skills.
  • You will participate personally in hands-on design creation.
  • You will support and uphold our brand guidelines to ensure tentree remains true to who we are.
  • You will ensure a seamless visual brand experience for our customers at every touchpoint.

Team Leadership

  • You will motivate, mentor, and inspire a team of cross-functional, creative professionals to deliver the highest quality creative assets.
  • You will manage and cultivate the career development of staff members.
  • You will be actively involved in hiring and training creative staff.
  • You will anticipate resource needs and focus on succession planning.
  • You will oversee the budget and resource planning, collaborating with external vendors and internal departments.

Marketing Leadership

  • You will provide leadership and support in the conceptualization, creative expression, and execution of marketing campaigns and collateral across all marketing channels.
  • You will translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies while ensuring visual communication and brand standards are upheld.
  • You will ensure creative support and direction for fast-moving digital teams to keep content effective and relevant to our audience.
  • You will understand the importance of delivering design and specifications to best optimize digital channels.
  • You will identify potential partnerships for projects and manage agency relationships as needed.

Requirements

Professional Requirements:

  • 3+ years in a Creative Director role
  • 5+ years of supervisory and managerial experience
  • 8+ years of experience developing integrated marketing campaigns (email, display ads, social media) using film, animation, and imagery; ad agency or in-house creative team preferred
  • Proven experience working and coaching the copywriting and editing process
  • Experience leading multiple projects from conception to completion and leading or being part of cross-functional creative teams, including design, film, photo, and writing
  • Expert in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and experience with Figma
  • Experience forecasting design and production issues as well as managing departmental budget and forecasting spend
  • Strong presentation and communication skills; ability to present ideas clearly and lead to buy-in
  • Strong understanding of consumer behavior and current trends in retail and digital e-commerce
  • Digitally savvy with experience in motion graphics

  • Ability to understand brand marketing strategies and business objectives and apply creative support
  • Ability to see the big picture, determine the right course of action, delegate responsibility, and allocate resources effectively
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple deadlines and projects
  • Ability to think strategically, act quickly, multitask, and drive processes and decisions
  • Ability to apply cultural and design trends relevant to our consumer

Preferred:

  • Degree or other courses related to Fine Arts or Graphic Design
  • Proven experience concepting for and executing seasonal consumer campaigns with a strong understanding of the retail customer journey

A typical hiring range for this position is $115k - $135k CAD per year with the final salary offer based on your qualifications, job-related skills, and relevant experience.
