Operations Manager

As an Operations Manager, you will oversee daily operations within the company, ensuring smooth functioning across all allocated client sites while optimizing efficiency and productivity. Your core responsibilities include managing employee performance, leading teams, and coordinating resources to achieve operational goals. You will work closely with other Operations Managers and departments to ensure alignment with organizational objectives, fostering collaboration to enhance both operational and strategic outcomes.

In addition to day-to-day management, you will contribute to business development efforts by identifying growth opportunities and nurturing client relationships. You will play a key role in project execution, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. By driving operational excellence and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, you will support the company in achieving its long-term strategic goals.

Details on the role and its responsibilities are as follows and may be subject to change based on business needs:

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic:

  • Provides input into and execution of the strategic goals for the organization related to Marketing, Business Development, Operations, Human Resources and the Project Management Office.
  • Contribute to various corporate initiatives, including but not limited to, career pathing, project management office execution, project data storage, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Provide input and expertise to support company-wide goals and initiatives.

Project Management Office:

  • Develop and implement policies, standards, methodologies, procedures, best practices and templates.
  • Execute projects based on project framework parameters.
  • Support project teams to ensure successful project execution to achieve quality, time, and budget targets.
  • Actively participate in project work as needed to support delivery and resolve issues.

Operations:

  • Manage direct reports and provide mentorship, providing guidance and knowledge transfer to build their skills and capabilities.
  • Familiar with the use of the Saskatchewan Employment Act.
  • Employment and Client Contract negotiations.
  • Creating new/amending current policies, procedures and templates.
  • Manage Client and Field Staff relationships including career pathing, resource planning, and saturation efforts.
  • Travel to project and operational sites, and corporate offices regularly to promote relationship development and support project development needs.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and growth within the team.
  • Participate in company events and volunteering opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal functional groups to develop and improve processes and systems that support company growth and efficiency.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure seamless project delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct biweekly timesheet and payroll reviews.
  • Review monthly invoices and assist accounting with timely payments.

Business Development:

  • Develop proposals for engineering, project management and secondment/owners representative services.
  • Attend trade shows and conferences.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen trusted-based client relationships to ensure satisfaction and long-term collaboration.
  • Identify client needs and potential projects in order to provide tailored solutions and value-added inputs.

Work Schedule: The Operations Manager position is office-based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Monday to Friday, for 8 hours per day. There is some flexibility within the role to work remotely on occasion.

Requirements

  • Education in Engineering, Technology, Project Management, Trades, or other related fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the mining, energy, consulting or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience and a strong background in project management, managing budgets, schedules, safety, quality and risks within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience with client relationship management.
  • Strong technical background with the ability to provide solutions and technical guidance.
  • Experience with business development and identifying new project opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead teams.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience with process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in developing technical proposals.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout Canada and the United States to support project and business development initiatives.
  • Must have own means of transport to get to and from work, as well as attend various job sites.
  • Being able to flex hours and prioritize work/work independently.
