About this Role

We are seeking an experienced Cloud Application Architect with deep expertise in AWS to lead the design and implementation of secure, scalable cloud solutions. This role is crucial for ensuring our cloud applications are architected to meet the highest standards of security, performance, resilience, and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Design and architect AWS-based cloud solutions with a strong focus on security, compliance, and scalability.
  • Design scalable and resilient architectures that can handle growth and peak loads without performance degradation, ensuring continuous availability and reliability in the face of failures or unexpected disruptions.
  • Design and implement secure encryption strategies, ensuring the protection of sensitive data both at rest and in transit across AWS environments.
  • Collaborate with security engineers, compliance officers, and development teams to integrate security controls and evolve current state architecture.
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices to development teams on secure coding, encryption, and data protection within the AWS environment.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of architecture documentation, and contribute to certification and compliance documentation, including risk assessments and system security plans (SSPs).
  • Conduct architectural reviews and audits to ensure continuous alignment with industry standards and best practices, such as NIST and ISO 27001.
  • Evaluate AWS services and tools to ensure they meet the requirements and advise on appropriate selections. Lead the implementation of AWS services & best practices.
  • Manage and facilitate clear communication between cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including security, compliance, and development, to ensure alignment and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (required); Master's degree in Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, or a related field (preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in cloud architecture and implementation, with a strong focus on AWS services.
  • Strong understanding of industry-standard security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, and AWS security services.
  • Proven experience in implementing security controls and achieving compliance in AWS environments.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional and/or AWS Certified Security – Specialty (strongly preferred).
  • Cloud-Native Expertise: In-depth knowledge of cloud-native technologies and patterns, including microservices architecture, containerization (Docker), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and serverless computing (AWS Lambda).
  • Familiarity with Java frameworks such as Spring or Hibernate, and how they integrate within cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience with Kubernetes: In depth knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration, including managing, scaling, and automating application deployments.
  • DevOps Experience: Proven experience in integrating DevOps practices into cloud architectures, including the use of CI/CD tools (e.g., Argo CD, GitLab CI/CD), configuration management (e.g., Ansible, Terraform), and automated testing frameworks to streamline deployment processes and ensure consistency across environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate alignment and collaboration across multiple teams, including security, development, operations, and compliance, ensuring cohesive project execution.
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM) Expertise: Experienced in designing and implementing IAM solutions, including OAuth2, OIDC (OpenID Connect), and SAML authentication systems, to ensure secure and compliant access to cloud applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex AWS architectural and security concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with FedRAMP or other compliance frameworks is optional but highly beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency in both written and verbal English communication essential for effective correspondence with clients, suppliers, business partners, and colleagues beyond the province of Quebec.
